So? Two years is a long time in football. He may fall off this year. Trying to predict 5 years from now is an exercise in futility.

The state of QB is really weird. So many college teams going to spread. If you draft one of those guys and run spread, you're one brutal hit away from losing your franchise QB.

So you take guys from less successful schools who run the traditional offense and then you have to deal with them not facing top competition, learning curve, etc.

It's a big time quandary. I'd hate to be trying to draft QB's now.

Honestly the offenses aren't that different and if a QB has talent and a feel for the position they'll pick it up. The most difficult transition is pre-snap responsibilities but that can be learned if they have the capacity. You never know until you have them in your program.

I think the spread is a better measuring stick than the days when you were drafting QB's out of running systems even as grounded as the Wishbone and Option. At least the guys are tossing the ball with some regularity.

And reading defenses since box counts and safety location dictate which type of play will be run in these fast break no huddle offenses.

This is why RPO's are so effective when executed. Pass plays with a run option built in. 5 guys in the box with the OLB shading the slot, audible to an inside zone. 7 in the box with the safety dropping inside, pass off the run action.

Goodell is going to be gradually stripped of powers and become more and more of a lame duck until his contract isn't renewed. At which point he'll be made a scapegoat for the CTE issue.

I think this year we start seeing new elite QBs. Cam is already a star, just needs to keep showing it. Luck behind an o line that can hold the middle. Wilson may just be held back by usage. Guys like Bridgewater, Mariota, Winston, Bortles and Carr are a step or two forward away. Osweiller is getting a fair chance. And RG3 is getting a new chance.

Someone will emerge.

Luck's issues are not due to his o-line. He is a turnover machine and makes poor decisions and struggles with accuracy. Some were quick to anoint him a future HOFer. Plenty of quarterbacks deal with protection breakdowns and manage to succeed.

He tends to hold the ball looking for big plays instead of checking it down or throwing it away then fans blame the o-line. FWIW PFF had Indy's line ranked #10 in terms of pass protection last year. Maybe he learned a bit from Hasselbeck in terms of game management. The thing with quarterbacks is they rarely improve on what they struggle with. Luck does a lot of good things and he's a top 10 QB when healthy but sometimes he looks ****ing terrible.

plus he has a bad tendency to stare down his first progression read, waiting for him to get open and create a big play.

indy's oline isn't good by any means but it's not completely awful either relative to the rest of the league. they had to use extra blocker(s) quite often like dwayne allen. and interior was usually the bigger issue than the tackles.

and like you said, he holds the ball too long and looks for boom/bust plays too often. he's brett favre, not manning or rodgers.

I dont disagree, but, the weak play of the inside o line makes it a lot easier to guard against short plays.
