Well it's that time again...

The Flyers sent out an email this morning about their "annual" Chalk Talk with the coaches and asked for questions to be asked so... fire away and I will forward the best ones.

AV, Therrien, Yeo, Lappy, and Dillabaugh will be there.

This isn't a link:

Questions have to be kind of smart too, not ‘why do you play bad players so much?’

When you do it right you get to tell Dave Hakstol he is an idiot for playing Andrew MacDonald so much without calling him an idiot.

How can we improve in the shootout? Do we practice the shootout? Should we add players who are shootout specialists?

They’re going to be mostly Carchidi level questions. Not to say they can’t be annoying but not in the sense the questions make you really think & can possibly make you look stupid if not answered thoughtfully.

Yeah, they’re not going to accept anything that’s actually worth asking and even if they did we’d just get a cliche response.

We’ll never get the answer to any of the real questions, like why can’t they do the right thing in regards to the PP, why is Friedman buried under inferior players, how does one of the worst defensemen in the league continue to play, why did they change the system to a broken joke, why do you either not look at analytics or look at them and ignore them, or any of the hundreds of questions we regularly ask on here.

They want softballs from the casual fans. Like the shootout stuff.

I'd just try these 3, all for AV.

1) What did Claude Julien do or say to you that made you change from one of the most exciting 5 on 5 teams the Flyers have had in years to a boring, cowardly mess that has now spanned almost 30 consecutive games over two seasons?

2) Is Michel Therrien the greatest powerplay coach in the NHL today, or is he the greatest powerplay coach of all time?

3) Now that TK's confidence is in tatters, should he be healthy scratched indefinitely until his confidence comes back?

A real question that is neither disrespectful nor a "gotcha":

For years this team had tons of success with Giroux on the left boards, Voracek on the right boards, and Gostisbehere at the point, which saw them at 1st, 10th, and 14th in league-wide PP points over a three year sample. Since this current coaching staff has been hired, that exact setup has never been tried even once. Why not give something with a long track record of success a chance when the PP has regularly struggled and required constant changes over the past two years?

Didn't they come out and say last year that the successful set up was too predictable?

I feel like we had that discussion on here at the beginning of last season.

They've often done the same setup but with Provorov in Ghosts spot, so they can't really believe that. Or sometimes someone replaces Voracek in that same exact spot too.

Unless they rationalize that by thinking that replacing superior PP players with inferior PP players makes it more unpredictable, which I guess is technically true.

Regardless, point is we've never had Giroux on the left, Voracek on the right, Ghost at the point at any time since Hakstol was fired. They can have those three in those spots and do other things to make it more unpredictable if they wanted, like having people move around at times or swapping different players into the other two spots. But they refuse to give it a shot.

Anyone who asks about the shootout gets the gulag. Especially if you come *prepared* to recite shootout stats

In the playoffs last year into the early going this year, there has been an apparent change in the depth of the forward support on the breakout. This has lead to more space between the forwards and defensemen and more difficult pass attempts when leaving the zone. Is this stylistic change permanent, or is there a plan to return to a more controlled exit strategy?

The team is near the top of the league in dump in percentage, despite having several high-quality transition players. With shot generation generally favoring controlled entries over dump ins by 50%, why is there a focus on attempting to regain possession, rather than using it as a secondary entry method?

I kind of want to ask this question but also add something about Provorov's PP time and how he could possibly benefit from resting during PPs to prevent running him into the ground. They just said on the broadcast that he's third in the NHL in ice time/game

Alright here is what I am submitting:

The team had a lot of success (1st, 10th, and 14th league-wide in PP points) on the PP with the setup of Giroux on the left wall, Voracek on the right wall, and Gostisbehere at the point. Why not go back to this setup that had a track record of success to get the PP going again? Rest of the unit would feature JVR netfront and Couturier in the slot. This would move Provorov off PP1, but with him averaging the 3rd most minutes in the league, it would give him a breather as Sanheim and/or Gustafsson could handle PP2 duties.

Ask about the lack of physicality from this roster? Say its hard to win in playoffs with this roster construction.

Guarantee this question gets asked or a lack of toughness question. Its been asked at pretty much every town hall/chalk talk I've been to.
