212 - Vesterinen - UD - N/A
215 - Rasmussen - UD - N/A

On the guys who got drafted, I selected them later than they typically went, most impressive being a 5th round mock draft that went 3rd round actually. But half my picks weren't even drafted, which is more like two weren't drafted since there's an allowance per Denominator's system for the last seven picks (211-217). Over agers aren't as popular as I thought they'd maybe be, the risers that came from way down bottom, and are only near the top of the bottom, also not as attractive as I'd thought. Based all of my picks from the link ChuckDownie provided.

And, a special shout out to Penn State Hockey- four players drafted!
I expected two of them (Barratt & Smirnov), and the other two were pleasant surprises (Hults, Talvitie).

Evan Barratt in the third round (90th overall) to the Blackhawks
Cole Hults in the fifth round (134th overall) to the Kings
Denis Smirnov in the sixth round (156th overall) to the Avalanche
Aarne Talvitie in the sixth round (160th overall) to the Devils

I am in the process of compiling the data and scoring everyone based on the system outlined in the previous thread.

My initial hot take - there are fewer true hits than I expected, and a LOT more undrafteds than I expected. I am still going to score everything as I outlined, but may need to revamp it for future years based on how many players we drafted that the real GMs didn't.

Once I get everything scored, I'll post it here. Depending on timing and boredness, I may be able to do it in a post by post reveal like Bill Daley.

I've also started building the spreadsheets to track players through the years so we can tell who actually won (and who did better than the real GMs).

I think in future mocks maybe we score a bit more for the picks later in the draft. So if you hit within 5 say in round 5 or 6 it is scored higher then round 1 or 2.
I like this concept tho. It was fun. Even if I was terrible at it

I killed it with Sabres draft. Every pick was better than actual (some way better) except for Tyszka in the second and Hernandez in the sixth.

Oilers not so much. Reached for Hague, got Rasanen a little later and Gallant a little later. Roykas-Marthinsen was almost exact. No one else was drafted.

I think I win,

The guy I picked went 3rd overall, and when we got to the draft the Coyotes didn't even have the pick any longer.

Thank you.

So, a couple of preliminary stats after my quick initial rundown.

There were only 4 direct hits:

01. Nico Hischier
02. Nolan Patrick
15. Erik Brannstrom
46. Robin Salo

I had figured there would be close to 15/20 - the first round was generally close (there were an additional 2 misses by 1 and 2 misses by 2) so I thought a handful would hit. There were also a few very near misses later that could easily have been hits.

There were an astonishing 78 TOTAL MISSES - as a group, we mock drafted 78 players that the NHL GMs didn't want. That also means we failed to identify 78 players that the NHL GMs think have a shot at the NHL. That's 36% completely wrong - I assumed we would be around 25-30, maybe 40. But 78 astonishes me. [sidenote - I haven't checked my consensus rankings against the draft yet, but there are at least 10 players drafted that didn't make my pre-draft list of 442 players).

The worst misses were:

64. Artyom Minulin
67. Scooter Brickley
70. Nate Knoepke
77. Rickard Hugg

Finally, these are just my quick hot takes and I may have missed something, but the biggest reaches look to be:

28. Matthew Strome (real draft 106)
58. Jarret Tyszka (real draft 149)
61. Olle Eriksson Ek (real draft 153)
72. Ivan Chekhovich (real draft 212)

And again, may be wrong but initial biggest steals are:

168. Gustav Lindstrom (real draft 38)
175. Mario Ferraro (real draft 49)
197. Zachary Lauzon (real draft 51)
202. Kirill Ustimenko (real draft 80)

With honourable mention to mock-Florida, picking up Josh Norris in the third round at 66 when he went 19th overall in the real draft.

I'll get to breaking out the teams and starting scoring tomorrow. Unfortunately, timing wise, I'm working long days away from home in crappy internet right now so this is going to take a bit longer than I'd like. Bear with me.

Just taking a quick glance I think almost all my picks are negative as in they got picked later except least one piere Oliver Joseph, I'd say I'm the gm to trust

I think a lot of GMs reached for defensemen, especially in like the second round, so that is maybe going to skew results a bit. That's fine though, it will be cool to see how they did vs how we did with how the players develop.

Interestingly enough, Detroit reached for a defensemen in the 2nd (Gustav Lindstrom), that I snagged in the 6th. Ken Holland, man.

He was on my list of players I was looking at for that spot, but I forgot to actually make a pick and he got auto-drafted. I'll still take the HM though:laugh:

Good point. I hadn't considered the auto-picks. I suppose the only fair way to treat them is as true picks, but maybe I'll add an asterisks to the autos.

I'm through about a third of the teams, and have set it up to show two key pieces of data at once - what I've termed the Denominator Index (DI) and Pick Corsi (PC). I'll leave you to speculate on what they represent but it should be fairly simple to figure out. It's interesting to compare the different stats, just like comparing advanced stats in real hockey. So far, there are 2 teams that have done quite well, and 2 teams that have done terribly, and the other 6 are somewhere in the middle. I assume that trend will continue. Here's hoping at least some of you are as interested in the stats as I am.

I am definitely interested, good or bad. Some teams had mainly autopicks for whatever reason, but they could be interesting to see as well.

I'm wishing I would have taken Altybarmakyan instead of Bellerive in the seventh for sure. All of my picks would have been drafted.
