Yes and no. Vacinnes for flu are predicted every year by doctors as the most likely types of flu to be floating around that season. Hence why they are not 100% effective.

Its predicted using statistical profiles across the globe and usually the prediction takes place about 9 months in advance to permit mass production. The algorithms used are hardly satisfactory as only about 50% of time is the prediction correct. Nonetheless having the WRONG flu strain vaccination still provides partial protection/relief against other strains.

The coronavirus is not very dangerous for most people but it is extremely virulent. It was unknown how dangerous the virus was initially but in hindsight the quarantine shouldve ONLY been elderly and immunocompromised populations. That wouldve saved the economy...who cares about economy? Because nobody is working there are limited supplies like GLOVES, MASKS, MEDICINE, and, yes, toilet paper XD

So keeping workforce intact wouldve been a better approach especially since people under 40 years (per the CDC) have a 0.4% mortality rate...the flu has a 0.1% mortality rate WITH a vaccine. So when people suggest the corona virus is just a worse flu - if they're under 40 - theyre not wrong.

The total quarantine was a safe measure since we didnt know how this virus was going to affect people. Now its gradually becoming clear it's the usual suspects (elderly and immunocompromised) although that usually includes small children but they dont seem to affected.

in Germany 25000 people died in between 2017 and 2018 because of normal Influenza. It was the worst epidemic of Influenza in the last 30 years. no one in germany takes notice of that.
