Thinking the same. He turns 20 in March. I wonder if he can be signed as UFA?

Already this season, he's played in MHL, VHL & KHL then 2 games in WJC before he bolted to London.

that's a tough one, as a CHLer it would be his last draft that he's eligible for but not sure how they would consider him since he played in the OHL then went back to Russia last season and half of this. As a Russian player he could get drafted beyond the '22 draft.

Mailloux trying to decapitate Flint's netminder with a wrist shot to the head. Absolute bullet. Kid might already have the best wrist shot in organization.

Then does an Al Iafrate impression by just motoring up the middle with the puck. Guy tries to hit him and just bounces off.

A really good debut for Mailloux.

Weird right? We should draft him anyway. Got three 3rd round picks.

@montreal is on it . You'll have to give his channel a subscribe and tell your friends about it though, it's the rule ;-)

I know he's on it

If this is as bad and rusty as he'll get, we've got a prospect on our hands.
Only was able to watch the last two periods but these are my observations of Mailloux:
  • He played a conservative game as it was obvious that he had not played in a highly competitive game in a long period;
  • Has a presence on the ice and sees the ice well and can find the open man both in the offensive zone and in the transition game.;
  • Was not overly physical which was consistent with his overall conservative approach;
  • Has an excellent , heavy shot which he loves to display, This kid will score a ton of goals at the OHL level and will develop into a consistent scoring threat in the NHL;
  • Has a somewhat awkward, hunched over skating style, very similar to Malakhov's without the top end speed and elite acceleration;
  • Like Malakhov, prefers to use his wrist shot than a slap shot. His wrist shot is heavy and he will be one of the few players able to use it to beat goaltenders from long range or to cause rebounds. This kid will make the NHL on his shot alone;
  • His style reminds me of a more fluid Sheldon Souray;
  • Has good straight forward speed and can both join the rush in support or, as he showed in the last minute, carry the puck end to end;
  • Has surprisingly good puck skills, uses this skill and his long reach to create offensive opportunities;
  • While he was generally able to contain his opponent on the boards, he will have to gain strength to be able to control stronger players at the next level;
  • Played in all situations, particularly on the power play where he was the triggerman from the point and consistently made the 'smart' play, taking the shot when it was there or passing off to an open man when the shot wasn't. Teams will soon learn that they will have to over play Mailloux in order to take his shot away (which will open up other opportunities on the power play a la Weber/Souray) or risk having their goalie killed;
  • Showed his rustiness when he fanned on several shots when the puck was set up on a tee for him on a one-timer;
  • Must improve his lateral skating ability as he was vulnerable on the rush and was often forced to reach with his stick as he was challenged wide by opposing players; and
  • He's 6' 3" and not 6' 5," as some here suggest, as he is clearly 2 inches shorter than Kirill Steklov, who is in fact 6' 5".

Bottom line, based on first impressions, in one of his last moves as GM, the Idiot Savant did well as he drafted a player at 31 OA who has a chance to be an impact player at the NHL level.

As was advertised, the kid has terrific tools. It's just a matter of whether he can put it all together to become a top 4 NHL dman. I'm glad he has the Hunter bros guiding him because it would be easy for someone of his size and ability to develop bad habits in the OHL. Everything looked easy for him tonight due to his size and skating. I can't imagine what he'll look like next year in the OHL as a 19 year old!
