Fleury only player who chose to go to Vegas

The whole “Golden misfits” thing got me thinking, did anyone really choose to be on this Vegas team? To my surprise, basically no one did.

Of all the players to play in the playoffs for Vegas so far, only fleury “chose” to be on the team by waiving his no movement clause.

Amazingly everyone else had no say. Vegas signed almost no one in free agency. Guys like Brad Hunt and Maxim Lagace played in the regular season, but neither have played in the playoffs yet. Even Nate Schmidt who was an RFA didn’t willingly sign and was awarded arbitration.

Carpenter was claimed off Waivers, and the guys acquired via trade (Smith, Reaves, Tatar, etc.) didn’t have any no-trade clauses.

Just find it amazing that everyone has made the most of it when their attitude could have been, “I don’t want to be here”

Well, Engelland too, but they were the only ones.

Edit: looks like you’re right, the site I looked at didn’t have that transaction for some reason.

Just realized Lindbergh signed too, but they had his RFA rights and he’s only played 3 playoffs games.

Will be fun to see who chooses Vegas going forward.
No state taxes,,decent cost of living, and right now, toast of the town team where you can still live in relative peace from fans/press

I’d be surprised if at least a few of those guys weren’t happy to be selected. Several of them were on the borderline of ending up on waivers or in Europe, and were basically handed no-compete roster spots. For a guy like Sbisa, losing in Vegas would have been no worse than losing in Vancouver... never mind the possibility that the Knights would be a very good team.

Who would have ever thought they might be in a position to tell John Tavares "sorry but we can't have you ruining our team chemistry. Plus you'd be #2C and we have to give a huge raise to our #1 center."
"You mean that guy who got 6 goals last year?"
"Yes."

Engelland was a pending UFA, he absolutely chose Vegas too.

Engelland is from Vegas, there was no way he wouldn't sign in Vegas to see the expansion in his home town.

Engelland is from Edmonton. But his wife is from Las Vegas; he met her while playing for the ECHL's Las Vegas Wranglers (his first pro team) and their family home is there.

Brayden McNabb didn't choose to go to Vegas, but he clearly was one of the most enthusiastic for the opportunity. He actually traveled to the draft and put the jersey on. He also chose to sign a 4-year extension with them all the way back in November, when there was still plenty of time for the team to tank, erase their good start and end the season as a bottom feeder. He didn't choose the Knights, but he was one of the earliest to embrace being one.

You're crazy, Vegas is a pipe dream for any young sports millionaire who doesn't have roots laid down somewhere else. Only professional sports team in town big bonus too.

They may not have had a say but they would have probably chosen Vegas over most teams given the chance.
