Good post.Gotta love the Flames board.
We win big, the only real concern in the goaltending and some defensive lapses; but Ryan and Bennett are the main topics
If Benny plays like this, he'll work his way up the roster. He's looked good so far this preseason and season, and will definitely get his opportunity up the line up.
Also, why are we bringing the Ryan *****ing already? The dude played 2nd unit PP, on a powerplay that deploys 4 forwards. His TOI reflects that he's Calgary's 3rd line centre? What are people expecting here? For him to play 4th line minutes?
I really thought that that Dube - Ryan - Neal line looked fine for most of the evening. They had a couple rough zone times, but overall, not horrid. They also generated some chances that they weren't able to capitalize.
At this stage I have no issues regarding forward deployment. If we play like we've been playing on the attacking end for 80 more games, we'll make the playoffs.

I'd welcome it, although I think Bennett's better in his current role than Nylander would be. On the flip side, I think Nylander would make Jankowski a better player. Our top 9 would look great with Nylander.^ I wonder if we see Bennett and something packaged for Nylander at some point.
I was actually thinking that maybe Bennett + Frolik at the draft to a team lacking forward depth. But Stone + Bennett does make sense tooI'm not too concerned about Bennett because I think he gets traded this year in a quantity for quality deal to a team who looks to be nearing a rebuild. I have absolutely no justification for this outside of the way the forward core is clogged up, I just think it makes sense for Treliving to do.
Maybe something like Bennett and Stone for a PP specialist on D to take bottom pairing minutes with Valimaki? Watching the game last night makes me wonder if Del Zotto could be a good fit, despite being a LHS. Then call up Eatbread and let him play out the season as our 4LW and put Lazar in Frolik's spot.
If this should go in the Armchair GM thread mods feel free to move.
LMFAO.... we'd have to package a hell of alot with Bennett to land Nylander^ I wonder if we see Bennett and something packaged for Nylander at some point.

Maybe just go balls out and include all 3I was actually thinking Frolik + Bennett initially, hence why I refer to Lazar filling Frolik's spot in my post above forgot to edit. But I felt like if we moved them for a more skilled winger or something we'd end up with the same problem of distributing ice time, either we put Dube's development on the backburner and push him to the fourth line or we end up playing this hypothetical new acquisition there and don't end up any better than we were. The forward core is actually deeper than defense for probably the first time since before the rebuild began.
Look at you, trying to cripple the team againMaybe Bennett and Gio could get it done.

Agreed. When injuries happen and/or he gets hot, he will get an opportunity to move up in the lineup.I think you keep Benny on the bottom line this season. Would certainly help you get a good contract out of him.
Both Bennett and Czarnik have played center thus they're both experienced at taking face offs, if Backlund gets tossed.Backlund gets tossed from the FO circle quite a bit, that is why I like having Ryan out there on the PP with them.
I believe that success was due to the 1st PP unit. The 2nd unit needs improvement.Given the PP went 3/6 officially (and 4/6 unofficially since Giordano's goal was seconds after time elapsed) I think the current PP lineup can be given a bit more time.
experienced at faceoffs and being good at faceoffs are two completely different things and Ryan is very good at faceoffsBoth Bennett and Czarnik have played center thus they're both experienced and taking face offs, if Backlund gets tossed.
