It's really not a matter of effort; the system just doesn't work. This is basically the Brent Sutter era all over again, minus the desperation trade to save the season at the expense of a core player. The greatest strength of the roster is the mobility the defense and it's all completely wasted under Gulutzan.

I'll also say Mike Smith should stop handling the puck behind the net because it freezes our D and quite often keeps the puck in our own zone.

2015-16 Flames - Top 5 guys
Giordano: 56 pts in 82 GP
Brodie: 45 pts in 70 GP
Hamilton: 43 pts in 82 GP
Wideman: 19 pts in 51 GP
Russell: 15 pts in 51 GP

2017-18 Flames - Top 5
Giordano: 37 pts in 77 GP
Brodie: 32 pts in 73 GP
Hamilton: 43 pts in 77 GP
Hamonic: 11 pts in 73 GP
Stone: 7 pts in 77 GP

That's a pretty remarkable drop.

It's to be expected that Gio sees a dip in his points total but I don't think he's fallen off of a cliff offensively like his stats suggest. Brodie has been effectively neutered. Hamilton is the only one who's showed some increase his numbers.

Hamonic, depsite being a stay-at-home type is usually good for 20 pts. Injuries while at Arizona might have derailed Stone but he could definitely provide more offensively. Hell he had 6 points in 19 pts when were rolling after the deadline last season.

The point is that we brought GG to provide a more defensively responsible possession system. The issue is that we're still conceding goals at a pretty bad clip and now we can't make up for it because his system doesn't permit our Dmen making stretch passes, joining the rush or making other "high-risk" plays. We have a golden goose of offense that we've just disregarded for the past two seasons, which makes acquiring a top 6 forward more of a priority than it should be.
