Just to verify ... I hadnt seen this come up anywhere as of yet, but did all 30 teams have their own 1st round draft picks before they came up with this "ping pong ball" format?

The reason I ask is, I was under the impression that the Leafs had traded away their 1st round pick for this years draft. If this is the case, then should teams that had traded away their picks from this draft lose them?

Any deal involving the acquisition of a 2005 draft pick prior to this snaking draft basically screws you.

A deal disposing of a pick could harm you as well. For instance, the Preds traded a second round pick in the Steve Sullivan trade. With snaking, if they fell to the last part of round 1, they have lost their ability to "make it up" with an early pick in round 2.

The Leafs and Flyers both dealt their 2nd round picks to the Rangers...so if they get late first round picks, the Rangers get their early second round picks, which actually benefits the Rangers a great deal.
