First NHL Player To Be Younger Than You

Sports is one of those things where age has basically no correlation on how well you understand It after a certain point

To play a sport, physically, of course but why aren’t coaches, GMs and scouts 20 years old? It’s the same with anything in life. Until your mental capacity starts to falter, you’re always gaining wisdom.

I was born on 5/5/83.

At a quick glance at Hockey Reference, there are two players younger than me who debuted in 2001-02: Olivier Michaud (9/14/83) and Dan Blackburn (5/20/83).

Blackburn's first game, 10/10/01, was before Michaud's only game on 10/30, so the first NHLer to be younger than me would be Dan Blackburn.

There are several NHLers older than me still active in the league, the oldest being Matt Cullen (who I'm sure has been mentioned upthread.) The active NHLer older than me who is closest to my age is Ilya Kovalchuk, who's about 3 weeks older than I am.

Zac Dalpe is the closest to my birthday that is younger than me, being born 3 days later.

I would've been one of the older 1st year eligible players in the '08 draft so essentially, almost everyone in that draft is younger than me. I remember the fact that Stamkos was younger than me messed with my head during the lead up to that draft.

Hah. Ahh to be young. Now players my age are "over the hill" and considered at the end of their prime.

I don't know who the first younger player was to make the NHL.. but from hockey reference, Stan Neckar is couple days younger than me and played 500+ gms.

So he is the first NHL player listed as being younger than me...
Then Brad Brown... then Jamie Storr... then Richard Zednik.
