FIRST GOAL GAME: CANES VS NUCKS. 12-9-23

Scoring will be as follows
Top 9 Forward - 2 points
4th line and defenseman 3 points
Assist on the 1st goal 1 point
Assist include primary and secondary
And it's the line the player starts on that will determine if they are top 9 or not.
I’m going to ask for everyone to keep an eye on the points and help,me out but I think this will make the game a little more interesting

@mikeyfan : I think we need a ruling before someone ever picks it correctly. How many points for correctly predicting Canes being shut out? Since that's relatively rare I think it should be 3 pts, same as D or 4th line.

I mean, bidding nil is certainly legit in Bridge and Spades, but yeah, let's not bid against the Canes.

Also, in terms of odds, if we get shut out, say 5x a season, that's ~1/16 odds. Any given skater is, on average, 1/18. Shouldn't be worth any extra, statistically it's probably about the same as picking a 2nd liner.

It’s called first goal game, which is inherently neither rooting for or against the hurricanes. It’s just who scores the first goal. so if the canes are losing 6-0, hoping your pick scores the first goal has nothing to do with the outcome of the game, hence not really rooting one way or another. There are only 21 possible answers to that question, 18 skaters two goalies and ‘nobody’. I yield to the rulesmakes, but I believe that nobody should be a valid guess with the same possibility of winning and points assignment as any other guess. The only thing that complicates it is the weighting rules added this year. Thinks to Lakelivin for asking that question, and I would agree wi5h th his suggestion. Thanks for letting me rant.

Philosophically, my take is that it's about making the correct prediction about the first goal, and if there is none and someone predicts that they should be rewarded. I don't see that as rooting against the Canes.

Having said that, I don't have a big problem with no points being awarded as long as that's specified up front, which you just took care of.
