Personally I would guess Gallant will look elsewhere, he has a good resume and that is what happens in the NHL.
I'm assuming Jarmo will hire somone from outside the league.

Maybe he even goes after the 5th line. Fingers crossed

You know he will bring in one of the top coaches in Finland .. Jussi Ahokas, Jukka Jalonen... Ahokas let it slip in interview he’s been in contact with NHL team in recent interview

I say keep Torts.

That said, I was looking at possibilities that you could hire in this weird COVID season if you went outside the team. And someone who wouldn’t want more than the CBJ are willing to pay.

One option would be to wait until a team is done with their NCAA season. So a guy like Tony Granato at Wisconsin could be an option.

Another option would be Karl Taylor. AHL coach of the year last year for the Milwaukee Admirals. The Admirals aren’t playing this season. I would guess he would be available immediately.

I'd like to point out that most people for the last few years has beamed about how Torts did "so much with so little." We made a couple moves to improve weak positions only to have no training camp, no scrimmages, PLDouche situation, etc. Now that he isn't squeezing blood from a stone, we want him gone?

Where is the benefit of moving away from Torts in the middle of a tanked season where we will have a hard time bringing in a new coach right away? Unless they secretly have a coach stashed away in quarantine, nothing will be changing soon. Paying a guy (even for a few games) to not coach, during a pandemic and a financial squeeze, is beyond inefficient.

Yup , they have regressed every year since their peak , has a terrible track record working with skilled wingers , time to get a jump on next season , and that includes learning new systems , getting Peeke , Kukan playing time to see what options they present for the long term

I think last season was the only year they squeezed out good performance for not much talent. The previous seasons had better teams.

What are you agreeing to? That post said nothing about moving on from Torts right now.

It’s not a new voice when it’s the same guy in the locker room. They know the Brad’s. That’s a backwards move.

Unless of course they hire either Brad as the permanent coach. Then you would actually have a “new” voice.
Do we know for sure there is a difference between the Brads/Torts and Mike Yeo/Craig Berube or are we already 100% certain that our assistant coaches are terrible? How do we know how they perform without Torts in the picture?

Craig Berube was a voice already in the room in St. Louis when they were a last place team then a switch flipped and a goalie got hot. We've already got goalies who can get hot, what is it going to take to flip the switch? I'm not even talking about winning the cup. I'm just wanting respectable play and hope for the future.

I like Brad Shaw. We were all worried about losing him a few years in a row a couple of years ago. I think he should be a head coach.

I just don’t want it to be here when we have so much to lose.

Maybe I don't understand exactly what we have to lose right now when this team is trending towards the basement with a whole slew of underperforming players. I'm well past the point of expecting some miracle turnaround yet again to sneak into the playoffs at the last minute so we get bounced by Florida or Tampa in the first round again.

Torts today just said Max Domi is in his own head and thinking too much. Who is responsible for this? I'm not sure many people have ever accused Torts of letting people use their instincts too much.

He’s a top 6 defenseman being mismanaged by Torts playing favorites . He’s been worlds better than savard , as has Peeke .

We have nothing to lose , this team is going nowhere under this current coach . As for what’s going on with Domi .. surely it’s not what plagued Wennberg while he was here , afterall, Wennberg left here and is now on pace for 25g in an 82 game season . Couldn’t be what’s holding Bemstrom back , after all , Bjorkstrand was essentially neutered under torts for 1.5 yrs before he got back to showing the offensive ability he first showed when he came up . Notice who does thrive under Torts system .. Robinson .. who loves the grinder type game and occasionally he’s able to score a goal . It’s going to be a great day when change is made , and we bring in a coach that the young kids can relate to, someone that knows how to utilize players that don’t play the grinder type game .

Wennberg is getting 1 shot per game, same as always. He's the same player just with better linemates.

Would you really bet on Wennberg scoring 25 goals? I'd love to take the other side of that bet.

So Domi is in his head too much, but Torts is not willing to have a one on one with him to talk through things...ridiculous. Julien messed with Domi too much too. Such an antiquated mind set. You cannot coach these 20 somethings the same way you coached in the 1990s.

Best way to tell a good coach is one that lifts players up in potential not ruins them in confidence.

You need to create a system around your players, not force square pegs into round holes.

Not willing? Probably not enough time available.

He’s not willing .. he believes all conversations should be in front of the team , and will not meet with a player 1 on 1 . Same with discipline, in front of team .. to think in today’s culture with men softer than my pillow that’s a winning strategy, is beyond me

Well, let's look at the lineups, or rather the most important ones, and these are the centers

Chicago - Strome,Walmark, Soderberg, Kampf - injured Toews
Carolina - Staal, Aho, Trochek, Lorentz
Florida - Barkov, Wennberg, Luostarinen, Lammiko
Nashville - Granlund, Johansen, Duchene, Sissons
Tampa - Point, Cirelli, Stamkos, Gourde, Joseph

Yes Wennberg isn`t a star but he`s a center and not a wing who is converted into a center.

We only have two classical centers, Stenlund and Nash, Texier (22) is converted into the center, Roslovic (24) was a winger in Winnipeg, he needs to get his skills back, Jenner, although a center, was transferred to the wing, as well as Domi. Foligno can only center if the partners are runners.

When you criticize Torst, first look at this thing. The centers are the most important part of the line. They connect the wingers, an important part of the defense, should be good on ace-offs. And if the TOP 9 are or wingers or only one classic center, it's pretty hard to play.

So, in my opinion, Torst's criticism is unfair. You can't make a good center of the the wings, figuratively speaking, one day, it takes time. Probably there will be problems with getting into the PO in this season, but I am sure that in the future this work can only help the team.

Recently, the Russian media had a very good interview with Daniil Markov, who put a good point on I. In addition, he said that most patients do not see many things that are clear only to specialists, do not take into account different nuances. Maybe Torts sees things we don't.
I also read it somewhere. I don't remember where, that young players are not always sent to the farm because they are bad. but to get the skills that coaches want to see from them. Maybe that's why the Peeke was assigned to Monsters to play a lot in different situations, so that a player of 1-2 pairs grows from it, and not 3.

To play combination hockey, you need to have classic centers, not players who are learning to be centers. Especially if they are still young. In general, Torts has no other choice. By the way, he coached Tampa, which won the Stanley Cup and the Rangers what has stars too, got to the Stanely Cup finals. Do you think they were playing hit-and-run?
Well, let's say that after the season, Torts will leave. But the other coach will have trained players, Tex won`t start at center, Roslovic get used to his position too, if the Laine extends, then it will be a completely different, not only man - shot, but a complete player. This also applies to Carlsson, who is, by the way, better and better. And we will say what a great coach we have, but we will forget who worked with these players.
