Finnish Prospect Update Thread

Thought this might be appropriate to create since Finland is doing really well in player development and are producing many good young prospects, as a result they are often the talk on these boards. People also sometimes create prospect threads to ask questions about low end prospects so this is made to avoid that. Here you can discuss young prospects, ask questions about anything related to any Finnish prospects and provide updates. Hoping a mod can turn this into a sticky as well.

The pipeline in the Finnish jr system has just started producing some serious talent and it doesn't look like it's about to dry out. I hope some mod will grab onto this one.

Sandvik has been quiet stats wise so far in the u16 4 nations. Other than Lambert the leaders are Miettanen , and Salminen up front ? Who is to watch for on defence?

Viljami Juusola is the top name on defense. Forward Samu Tuomaala is close to Lambert. He has been really good with U16 national team.

Hm, Aron Kiviharju was participating at the 06 TPS tournament this past weekend. His team actually won. It's pretty strange seeing him play with his own age group. It made for some interesting highlights, though. Here's a goal:


The other thing I'll mention is that Emil Kuusla is impressive for the 05 age group. Great production this season, very impressive to the eye test in the spring and great performance at this weekend's 04 tournament as a 05. I don't find anyone to be especially exciting for the 04 age group at this point in time. But of course, Brad Lambert is a late birthday for that age group's draft.

Topias Hynninen is another one to watch for the Kiviharju draft.

Born 19.12.2005 and has scored 18g 43p in 15 games in C2 AAA, which I think is pretty impressive and quite a bit better than Kuusla for example.

Havent had the chance to see him though.

Reiteration on the 04s, Elmeri Laakso looks very good and would be the top prospect for that age group, I imagine. No issue when it comes to eye test and the production as an underager at CSM is the best ever. His production has been far better than that of Viljami Juusola this season for instance, and Juusola likely is Finland's top D for the 03 age group. Apparently his scoring is the all-time best for -1 Ds by around 50% at Qs.

Still, when I've watched him I don't see an otherworldly talent like Kiviharju with the eye test. Then again, at C2 AAAs Kiviharju is as a double underager D leading his team in scoring by 50%. However, considering the recent success of Finnish D, we have to expect Laakso to compete for top spots in 2022 draft at this point in time. The next season and the international debut season will tell a lot more.
