Every year, year in, year out, there's so much hype surrounding the deadline and it inevitably flops. This year it's so quiet. We're just over a week away and there's barely a rumor. I'm guessing we see some major blockbusters go down, completely unexpected.

Here's hoping...

Trades yes..blockbusters no.

There are two many buyers over sellers so you might think increased value but there aren’t much of high value players that could be moved.

There are 6 sellers now. 7 appearto be likely playoff teams

The rest are bubble teams who may sell some and acquire some but they are likely not trading their 1st without protections like making the playoffs.

Cap issues also hurt blockbuster trades that could be done in the offseason

The entire point is it creates a mirage of parity and keeps mediocre teams artificially closer to a playoff berth than they otherwise would be. That means the races last longer into the season and people have incentive to continue attending and watching games.

Not sure how the math works for the 3-point system, but based on the ESPN projection from a month ago it actually wouldn't change those margins that much. But your stated goal of making more teams and games irrelevant earlier season is the exact opposite of what a pro sports league wants to do.

The phrase is "short-sighted," by the way.

A 3 pt system would reward regulation wins instead of p,aging it safe and getting a pt. This would change the game.

Other option each team gets half point (or 1pt) for OT then winner gets 1 pt ( half point) so winning OT/SO is 1,5 vs 2 pts for regulation win. This system would keep the same concept of how fat back teams are. If you go to 3 pt system there will be an adjustment period in knowing how far back a team was in standings.

I know everyone's super hard for the three point concept but that's not actually the point of this exchange.

Yes, have more teams blatantly out of the playoff race earlier in the season. I'm sure local ticket sales and TV numbers will be unharmed. You clearly understand the business side of these matters: Your interest in personnel transactions is more financially valuable to the league than, you know, all that other ****.
You aren't getting it though. If more teams are out of the playoffs early, sure, less people will watch games on tv or buy tickets to go. BUT, think of the TDL. They would be able to make a pay-per-view out of it. Have it on a Saturday and play no games that day. Set it up as a live auction where each guy walks out and spins around while all the other GMs yell offers until one is accepted. Would be so exciting....

Naw, there is no hype for a reason. Too many bad teams still think they're contenders and refuse to sell, simply hoping next year will be better. No rentals worth really moving any major assets for. This will likely be a very uneventful deadline.

Doug Wilson about to go to work boys. You ain't never seen Dougie outta his tanning bed like this. He about to drop some bombs. I predict at least 20 million in salary coming and going cumulative from San Jose. Doug gonna teach these Bay Area Sharkie-boys how a bytowner lights a fire under some overpayed man children. Gonna spank that ass.

Lack of players available could drive the market up, but GM’s are also starting to catch on that high price rentals rarely work out. I don’t think we’ll see many high prices unless it’s guys with term
