Is that really a racist insult, though? I'm sure every player identifies as French, but if their roots are African (as in, they were born in Africa) it's not that bad. :dunno:

Imagine, if you will, that Canada wins the next World Cup (hey, stop laughing, c'mon, quit it ;))

They do this with a team comprised of players born in South America, but who came to Canada to seek a better life and trained here, and won here.

If the resulting sentiment was "South Americans won the World Cup for Canada", I don't know if I'd take offense since technically it's not untrue. Same applies here, no?

It's complicated. Croatia was attacked, yes, but there were war crimes and war criminals on both sides.
And ignoring that is the best way to have ourselves another war.
War is never a good thing but unfortunately throughout human history there has been war. Anyway I enjoyed watching Croatia as I'm a big Modric fan. You guys showed some unbelievable heart and character. With a bit more luck in the finals you could have been World Champions.

No.

First, almost all the guys in this French team were born and raised in France. That doesn’t prevent them from being proud of their African heritage but France is definitely their country.

Second, they owe everything to the French football system, save for maybe Griezmann who left very early if I’m not mistaken, and maybe another one like him.

Third, I suggest you check out people who spouted this kind of BS and read between the lines of their speech. Their intentions are often quite clear.

I think Croatia is a beautiful country, and I especially like the fact that their people are proud of their country, proud of their heritage and always ready for their fatherland. I think even today you can see a broad gap between people in Europe who were raised to love their country and protect it, and those people who believe the whole world is their country and who don't believe they have a culture or heritage worth preserving.

How many of you are old enough to remember a French team without "colonial" players? Tigana in the 90's. Tresor in the 70's to name only two.

I don't speak French, but you need to stop getting upset by trolls.
No serious adult thinks France went through some sort of fiesta of violence as opposed to pockets of trouble by a minor number of morons in an what was an otherwise, I'm sure, a fantastic day.

I don't always agree with you on football stuff, you big biased Frechman, but I'm with you on this.

Really not upset, I just want the regular posters to get a clear view of what's going on here. Everyone's partying, except for a few hundred idiots.
As the article shows, few policemen were injured, contrary to what was said here. Nobody was killed obviously. The images circulating weren't even from this week and some weren't even from France.

Anyway, I still don't get the biased tag here. I've made my opinion on french players known, be it negative or positive. Anyone who says I never say anything negative is simply blind. I've made my share of cricitism towards Koscielny, Malouda, Griezmann, and so many others. I think my evaluation has been rather honest and accurate towards french players (or L1 players).
For instance, the troll comment about goalies ("if Alisson was french you'd rank him in the top 3") is just wrong. Only goalie I hyped was Lloris back in his Nice and then Lyon days and clearly he has lost his top 5 mark (even though he had an amazing WC until the final).

If you are going to imply that our South Americans that are winning us the next World Cup are anything less than great Canadians we are not going to stand idly by!

Guys, this is fake news.
Go to every decent ressource like Le Monde.

There were two deaths linked to WC celebrations and both were accidental.
Less than 300 were arrested even though millions were in the streets.
Videos and pictures were mostly a joke by a satiric website which was surprised to see every idiotic media take it for granted. Some come from damn Jakarta.

Read the article I gave you. If you can't read french, make an online translation.
This article sums up all the bad stuff that went on :
Deux morts et plusieurs blessés dans des accidents en marge des célébrations de la victoire des Bleus

CNN is simply not checking the sources.

It's not necessarily racist but it's, as the French would say, racialist. Most French aren't obsessed by the notions of race and origins in the same way as the Anglo-Saxons are, what matters for them is the shared culture and language. To tackle racism, Canadians promote the right to difference for various minority groups, the French promote the right to indifference to one's cultural or biological roots.

It’s more over-exaggerated and misleading than outright fake. French people may not be the most well behaved in general, and incidents did happen, but please stop with the « riot » crap.

I linked to the Monde Article. It clearly explains the fake news being taken seriously by several media.

300 people arrested, two people are dead. 50 police officers are injured. Youtube is filled with footages of looting, burning and rioting. Police using water cannons. I really dont understand how can you deny that. Or is this normal thing in France so you didnt even notice?
Don't ever, ever trust youtube footage. It's easily manipulated and taken out of context.
