And here we are at another Final Fantasy XIV thread.

There are plenty of people on different servers, but I've been trying to gather up people into TMNQ on Excalibur if you want to join us.

The server issues seem fixed for the most part, they are just trying to distribute the population right now :)

Repost of my original post:

What can I play as?
This section might be a little more robust!

Disciples of War: Class -> Job it turns into at level 30 - Party Role
Gladiator -> Paladin - Tank
Marauder -> Warrior - Tank
Pugilist -> Monk - Melee Damage Dealer
Lancer -> Dragoon - Melee Damage Dealer
Archer -> Bard - Ranged Damage Dealer + Support

Disciples of Magic: Class -> Job it turns into at level 30 - Party Role
Conjuror -> White Mage - Healer
Thaumaturge -> Black Mage - Magic Damage Dealer
Arcanist -> Either Summoner or Scholar - Magic Damage Dealer/Support (Summoner) or Healer (Scholar)

Classes vs. Jobs
When you reach 30 with any class, you will be able to unlock the respective job(s) that belong to that class after completing a quest(s). A job is dependent on your class, meaning only a Gladiator can be a Paladin and they level together, so if you hit 31 as a Gladiator, your Paladin is 31 too, and vice-versa. Classes are designed for solo play and jobs are designed for group play, but there are many times where these lines are blurred depending on how you choose to play. A class can have up to 8 skills from any other class equipped and useable at any time, meaning you can cast Cure as a Pugilist or Fire as a Marauder. However, when you attach your job soul and become your job, the number of equippable skills from other classes goes down to 4, and you can only choose from 2 predetermined classes. To make up for the loss, jobs gain exclusive skills that can only be used on that job, and not as that jobs class. An example would be a Bard's songs, Archer cannot use the more powerful songs.

contbanner_050_hover.jpg

Disciples of the Hand: Class -> What they generally make
Carpenter -> Furniture, Bows, Lances, Conjuror Staves, etc.
Blacksmith -> Axes, Swords, mid tier armor, etc.
Armorer -> Plate armor, etc.
Goldsmith -> Rings, Necklaces, Thaumaturge staves, etc.
Leatherworker -> Leather armor, Fist weapons, etc.
Weaver -> Cloth armor, Crafting gear, etc.
Alchemist -> Potions, Consumables, Crystals, etc.
Culinarian -> Food!

How do I craft?
Why, you have to do it manually of course (although, there is a quick option to make items in bulk after you make an item once, generally it's better to craft by hand). Crafting is not a matter of pressing a button and going away from keyboard, and it requires a bit of explanation:
- To craft, you merely have to be on that crafting class and either go into your crafting log and select what you want to craft
- All crafts require raw materials as well as a certain elemental crystal (depending on the craft)
- Crafters have CP, or Crafting points, and by using abiltiies to manipulate your crafting you will lose CP.
- A craft has 3 stats as you make the item - Quality, Progress and Durabiliy. Quality (as well as HQ%) determine how likely your item will be an increased quality version of whatever you are making. Progress is how close you are to finishing the item. Durability is how much stamina you have left to keep attempting to make the item.
- The goal of crafting is generally to get an item to 100% progress without losing all your durability or blowing the crystal up. The crystal will glow and undergo various effects while you craft and certain actions taken at certain times will either increase or decrease your chance at a failure.
- Crafting abilities are cross class! You can use a Carpenter ability to regain durability as a Alchemist, you are only limited by CP.

contbanner_060_hover.jpg

Disciples of the Land: Class -> What the gather -> What crafting class generally is a good fit (this is not exact, everyone benefits from every gathering class)
Miner -> Ore -> Blacksmith, Armor, Goldsmith
Botanist -> Lumber -> Weaver, Leatherworker, Carpenter
Fishing -> Fish (duh) -> Alchemist, Culinarian

In order to gather, you MUST be on the right gathering class at a node. You are then presented with a list of items (that made include ??? items) and your probability of attaining said item. All you have to do is select the item you want and then hopefully you will receive it! The lower the likelihood of you receiving the item is (because it is of higher level), the more experience you get!

That's all nice, but what is there to do in this game!
Well besides crafting and gathering and leveling classes, there is plenty of other stuff to do. I'll divide them into combat related, non-combat related and both.

Both:
- Quests! Some quests will require crafting, gathering or combat, but the game has tons and tons of quests to do
- Leves! Once you unlock them, you can choose to do gathering leves, hunting leves or crafting leves, which are special "mini-quests" tailored to whatever you want to do
- Grand Companies! Essentially like joining the army, each grand company comes with story quests, as well as daily supply demands, combat demands, missions and other things you can do for them
- Achievements! Gather pets, mounts, titles, whatever you wish

Combat related:
- A combat buddy! You can get a chocobo to fight alongside you, and you can tell him to tank, heal or do damage for you
- Primal fights! Fight Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Ramuh, Leviathan, Shiva and many more summons and Final Fantasy staples in rather quick your group vs. them battles. Source of high level weapons and armor.
- Dungeons! Can do high level (or not so high level) dungeons with other people to get gear and quests done!
- Raids! While not in at launch, the Crystal Tower is coming shortly after launch and is a 24 person large raid
- PVP! 4 vs. 4 arena PVP as well as 8 vs. 8 larger scale PVP.
- FATEs, large scale events that anyone in the area can join in on for EXP and gold
- Guidlhests, NPC escort missions that pop up time to time

Non-combat related!
- Player housing! Build a house, build some furniture, bug your neighbours, decorate it however you want
- Free Company housing! Help your guild show off stuff you did together! Also contains guild storage and everything else you might need
- Chocobo Racing/Raising (not quite at launch, but it's coming!)
- Treasure Maps! Maps you find while gathering can lead you to rare stuff if you can figure out where it is

This all sounds good, but can I ever run this?
Find out here

Okay, I want more information!
Either ask here or visit this site

Do NOT hesitate to ask me anything, whether it be through private message, this thread or whatever other way to contact me. I am here to help people and hopefully get them into a game I love dearly! :)

Odd. I haven't really been getting world list issues. Haven't tried to log in as I'm more or less waiting for Excalibur to open up at this point. Deleted my old char. I do see the 3102 error on the main site, but like I said haven't tried to log in yet.

There is a work around for anyone getting 3102 error:

Try either:
a) Make a character on a JP server and then try logging in to your NA one
b) open your windows command prompt and type "ping 199.91.189.21" without the quotes

The issue's been resolved.

Is it possible to walk from Ul'Dah to Limsa Lominsa? The ferryman was like "lol closed" when I tried.

You can get a ferry from Viper Canyon thingy (where the Walking Sands are) to Limsa Lominsa...
Not sure what level you are... Having at least a couple of teleport points each in all 3 major areas really helps.

Arena only.

Haven't posted here in a while. MSQ finally done; I had tried to level ACN and do the MSQ at the same time, but it was taking forever, so I hopped on WHM/BRD and ran through the rest of it.

Knocked out a few Amp Keep runs and am working on rounding out my gear with iLVL60/70 gear (Toxotes / Darklight). Also working on relic bow and will save my first 900 tokens for that before moving on to relic equipment / iLVL70 craftables with melds since Allagan gear is a long way off.

Beat Ifrit Hard easily on my first try this morning. Haphazard group of 3 FC members and the rest PUG; went surprisingly well. I outparsed the next highest PUG DPS by a factor of more than 2x and my BRD gear is mediocre at best (AF / HQ craftables / some iLVL60+ accessories).

One group in my FC has started on the Coil and they posted a video of the very first mob they ran into...holy smokes. Clearing turn 1 requires at least iLVL70+ gear and flawless manual dodging; I don't even want to know what turn 5 will be like.

Heh, and I just figured out that it's a lot easier to beat the level 10 gladiator quest when you dodge the spear special attack. Relatedly, Bruce the Big is like the crappiest healer ever.

No world pvp makes this very unappealing to me even though the game looks and from what I've read sounds good. The most fun I've ever had in mmo's was in vanilla world during random world pvp fights between rival guilds, was much more fun than instanced raids or organized arenas and battlegrounds.

PVP is an afterthought in FFXIV, because the game is focused on traditional Final Fantasy Storytelling. Open world PVP also doesn't work within the world itself, because it is not about Grand company vs. Grand company, it's about them all teaming up against a greater threat.

Developer post compendium:

On character appearance changes:
[Character Appearance Change]
Players that experienced issues changing the appearance of their FINAL FANTASY XIV Version 1.0 character when starting A Realm Reborn will receive a consumable in-game item called “Fantasia.” Using the item in game will allow you the opportunity to edit your character's appearance. The Fantasia will be sent via the Moogle Delivery Service in the order in which requests were received.

Please note that because Fantasia is a rare item, a character cannot possess more than one at a time. If you already possess a Fantasia (obtained as a Veteran Reward, for example), please use your existing Fantasia in your inventory before receiving the new one from the Moogle Delivery Service.

On people with wrong service account registrations (the guys here with multiple accounts):
Greetings everyone,

First off I would like to apologize for taking so long to get information to you regarding the troubles you're all experiencing with having the wrong service account registered (or by creating a new service account accidentally). We know how extremely frustrating it is to be unable to play with the characters you wanted to because of this issue and I want you all to know that we are taking this matter very seriously.

I also want to assure you all that you will receive your full 30-days of trial time when our Support Center moves the registration to the appropriate account.

First and foremost, we need users that are affected by this to fill out the appropriate form for their region. Please be sure to fill our the form properly as incorrect information will lead to delays in the process:
North American users: http://sqex.to/jpG
European users: http://sqex.to/ZZV

Please note that you'll only need to submit the form once, as we'll be able to address it based on the information we receive. Submitting multiple copies of the form will only serve to increase the time it takes to reach affected users.

To better address the backlog of users that are experiencing this issue, we are implementing improvements that will allow us to provide speedier support to customers with both PC and PS3 service account issues.

I would like to ask users that are affected by this to refrain from using phone numbers posted online to reach non-Support Center channels. The phone number being posted has no relation to the Square Enix FFXIV department, and, as a courtesy, users are simply being transferred to the already existing phone queue. The fastest way to receive support is by using the Square Enix Support center chat, phone, or email channels, and attempting to bypass these will actually result in a longer wait for you.

We sincerely apologize for the time it's taking to address this issue and for the frustration that it is causing each of you. We are working diligently to address the backlog and are looking forward to getting you all into the game as soon as possible.

On not being able to see mobs with a billion people around:
Greetings,

The Battle team is aware that in crowded areas, like FATEs for example, enemies will sometimes not appear for both the PS3 and PC version.
They are currently looking into the best method to address this issue. Once we have more information, we'll be sure to follow up!

On the smartphone game companion app:
Hello!

While I don't have a specific date to share with you all, I can say that we are currently preparing the Libra Eorzea app and plan on releasing it in the very near future for iOS to start off. Hang in there just short while longer!

Yeah he was crappy. My first attempt during the second wave by the time I aggroed them he was almost dead so I stopped to heal him. But I guess not getting that first kill in early next thing I'm the one dead because he was too slow to start healing.

Gotta say though I did the first Gridania dungeon last night and got a real kick out of the cut scene you get of the 'failed' party when you report back to Mother Miounne, Especially since I was doing my first attempt at the healer role so it hit way to close to home as the poor conjurer sniffling away while the two DPS ream her out was almost me . I mean it's not really a hard role but you're under so much pressure, at one point I looked away from the screen for 3 second then I turn back and oh god our gladiator has 50 hp!!!!

Yeah I'm not going to Excalibur, I've settled into a free company and at this point am fine on Goblin.

I figure I've waited this long for Excalibur, so might as well wait some more. I have plenty of other games I can play while I wait. Awesome that you've found a cool group :)
