From 1975-1985 the NHL did not have alternate captains, only one player who would wear the "C". During this time I am wondering what happened when the captain did not play? Did someone else always wear the "C" or didn't some teams go without a designated captains? Also, before that when teams had three alternates and one captain, did teams always have four players with letters in the lineup even when one might have not dressed out. I'm particularly curious as to whom filled in as captain for the Blues during this time. Any help would be great.
