I loved watching McGinn when he was with the Ottawa 67's and he has developed into a very solid, gritty top-9 forward with surprising offensive pop.

He's a left shot, he's young and durable. I'd like to see him with Kelly and Pevs.

Colorado has a track record of trading with Boston and Ference could add a nice veteran presence to their blueline. Though we may need to add another piece, maybe a prospect, since Ference is a pending UFA.

We'd still need to fill Ference's hole on the blueline with another trade.

Thoughts?

i would do any deal to get Mcginn in a heartbeat. The guy is good and would be a big boost to the Bruins offense in my opinion

Ference has played poorly this season, but I don't think fans should be so quick to ship him out of town.

I don't think his value is great around the league, and the Bruins can probably get more value from him on this roster than they could get in the return of a potential trade.

Ideally, the Bruins will acquire some defensive help at the deadline, but realistically, you are going to need 8 or 9 healthy defensemen during a deep playoff run.

Ference has always been a streaky player, and he could yet find his game. The Bs could do a lot worse than to have him as the 7th defenseman going into the playoffs, especially with the playoff experience and leadership that he brings.

I am frustrated with his play too, but let's give the guy a little more time to see if he can turn it around.

Just on the trade side of it: I love McGinn, and I would obviously do this deal, but I don't see it being enough for Colorado. Like I said, I suspect that Ference has more value to the Bruins, a contending team, than he does to a rebuilding team. I don't see it being a fit, unless they want his contract off the books after next year.

You got to be careful about trading away a guy like Ference. He seems to be a leader in the lockeroom.

Remember what happened when we got rid of the Sherif Shane Hnidy?

He does need to pick up his game though. It was good to see him so physically involved last night.

I'm sure whatever happened, it had nothing at all to with not having Hnidy. Being great in the room matters little when you're terrible at hockey. Hnidy was, and Ference is headed that way this year.

What about Caron and Boston's 1st for McGinn? Is that an overpayment?

I see McGinn as someone the Bruins should target, especially since he is young and cheap....andhe basically plays like the player we thought Caron would become.

I dunno...but I really want Paille back on the 4th line...and we need to replace Bourque.

I don't think Ference has any trade value at this point. He's worth about as much as Zanon was last year. I'd attempt to upgrade and just keep Ference as the 7th defenseman.

They do need an upgrade at forward as well. I'd love to see them take on an overpaid player from a seller and then use the compliance buy out after the season. Why? Because they're a big market club and they can afford to.

I keep forgetting that this is an option.

If that is the case, we can go after a top 6 and top 4 D or powerplay specialist...

Now that Ryder is off the table...Chia has to be looking at some interesting options.

I guess Ference isn't the guy we move...has to be prospects and probably all of our draft picks!!

i love Jamie McGinn, probably my favorite player in the league not on the Bruins. he would be a perfect fit on our third line and i also think he is a guy we could build the third line around going forward. that being said, Ference plus a second isn't gonna get it done. McGinn is good, young and on a reasonable contract. we would have to give up something significant like Koko plus Caron or Bartkowski/Krug.

Personally, i would do it because i love McGinn, but i am bias. completely understand if people think that's too much to give up. but our current top 6 plus McGinn with Kelly and Pevs for the playoffs would be a great top 9.

also think people here are giving up on Ference too early. he's been bad, actually awful, but i don't see this continuing. he's gonna snap out of it soon. i really like this defense, when Ference turns it around i think we'll all be happy with all three of our pairings.

Dammit I looked quick and thought this was an actual deal.

Me too lol. Maybe it was wishful thinking on my part. Anyway I'd love it if they could grab McGinn but I can't see the Avs looking to trade the likes of him any time soon, hope that I'm wrong.
