I've been looking forward to Semin's return to DC since the day we signed him, basically. :handclap:

I spent a good bit of time wondering what kind of player we were getting, and have been very, very happy so far. (I'm so totally stoked that I'm not sitting here counting the days until this cancer's contract is up in other words.)

That said, it's going to be interesting to see if Sasha is going to find a slightly higher gear tomorrow night. I think in some ways it's a bigger game for the Caps than it is for Alex, in light of Caps beat reporter Adam Vingan's tweets today.

Adam Vingan ‏@AdamVingan

Brouwer dropping bombs on Semin: "It was tough to lose his scoring ability when he wanted to play..." (1/2) #Caps

Brouwer on Semin, cont.: "Some nights you didn't even know if he was gonna come to the rink." #Caps

Last one from Vingan himself:
Put me down for...six Alex Semin goals tomorrow. Is that a thing?

I would love Sasha to just hash the Caps for at least 2 goals tomorrow night. Fingers crossed!

And just to summarize other Canes news:

Gleason may (I'm leaning heavily on MAY) return tomorrow night. He was skating in Raleigh today, along with Skinner.

Pitkanen, sez Maniscalco per Forslund, is about a week away yet.

I wonder what the reaction would be if Alex Semin were to trash two current teammates, a former teammate and a former coach in a span of a few months. But Troy Brouwer is a Good Canadian Boy so it's okay.

I wonder if they are purposely holding Gleason and Pitkanen back just to get a better look at Murphy.

While this isn't very believable IMO, I hope this is the case. I'm really concerned with the duration of their injuries. Us making the playoffs is contingent on getting them back soon.

Just read Troy Brouwer's comments about Semin. I can say on behalf of his teammates that we love having him here, and he has been (cont)

a big part of our success so far with his consistent play and work ethic. NOT only his scoring ability. I hope he sticks it to them #canes

But remember, Semin and Boudreau were the problem.

Now the problem is Ovechkin.

Once they trade him for Logan Couture, Marc Edouard Vlasic, Thomas Greiss and a 1st, the transition will be complete and they will be prepared to stop Winnin' for MacKinnon.

So they're trading Neuvirth then?

Then trading Holtby a few years later?

Attaway, Timmy. Twitter is a zoo and I'm not super-crazy about our players using it to chirp, but it's great to see guys standing up for Semin against this kind of nonsense.

I thought he was a cancer. I thought he was a bad guy, personally speaking. My opinion has changed somewhat. It's hard to judge a player when things are going well, relatively speaking, but he has been none of those things while he has been here to this point. I was willing to give him a fresh start when he signed with us to evaluate him myself and nothing he has done has fallen under the negative column as of yet. I remain cautiously optimistic that nothing will show up.

I mostly believe it, but more or less I read it as they want them HEALTHY, not just able to play but actually healthy. Much better for them to miss games now than later. The fact that Murphy and Sangs have been more-than-tolerable as replacements makes that easier to do.

I really hope the team rallies behind Semin and sticks it to Brouwer and the Caps. Hopefully Staal will want to be a good teammate and turn his game up a notch and help his linemate lead this team to a victory.

Go get um Sasha. Knock them dead.

Didn't Brouwer fight Faulk almost exactly a year ago and get handled pretty solidly?

That's kind of sad.

I had forgotten about that. Brouwer saw someone wearing the #28 and decided to try to beat them about the head and face. Caps were getting smoked that night, too.
