Red Ace series is pretty nice. Front doesn't even look like a hockey card but just a photo with a discreetly printed name on.
Speaking of horizontal cards, in full flight, Alexander Mogilny.

Yes, that was the first year I collected, in Grade Three, so it is the standard against which all hockey cards are judged by me. I remember that we didn't really know what the WHA cards were about, even though we were in Winnipeg, so no one really wanted them very much. Having said that, I still have the four Jets that I got that year, which didn't include the Hull card (I believe they were were Beaudin, McDonald, Hornung and Bordeleau). I wish I still had the Ottawa Nationals punch-out logo sticker card that I remember having at one point (before punching it out and sticking it on something). The other thing was that the cards were issued in series, and different stores just carried one series. So since we were eight year olds who could only buy cards at one or two neighbourhood stores we were allowed to go to, we really didn't have any access to half the cards. That was the case for a number of years. My favorite was the 1972-73 O-Pee-Chee set of 341 cards as they also included the WHA as part of the collection. The main reason why I have always liked O-Pee-Chee is that each card will list the stats for all seasons played by that player whereas newer card companies such as Upper Deck only include the last 5 years or so (it could be more but definitely not all the years of that particular player).
Many of the recent Upper Deck Masterpieces are nice.
Yeah. But not to downgrade base cards i don't envy anyone wanting to get a Lord Stanley autograph card since it obviously would take one of those cut autos. One might as well go to an auction themself and bid for any document of his, although a card always look nicer than a boring document all day. At least as long as its not an important document that you could frame, but that will cost you.Especially like the inclusion of those not often seen on hockey cards:
I always assumed the pre 1988 cards were all topps cards for all sports. Just now found out in this thread they were o-pee-Chee for hockey.Always have liked the 1979-80 OPC set - especially the back with the skate shape and the cartoon.

Thank you! There is a relatively recent book on the O-Pee-Chee hockey cards:

Yup, and i can tell you seem to be located in the cross fire between card collectors and collectors of complete game used jerseys. The latter are generally not too fond of the shredding business as you might can emagine. But the way i see it is that you theoretically can make about 5,000 jersey cards of a single jersey which will make it much more viable for many people compared to paying what could it be now for a McDavid gamer... $10,000? $15,000? I'm not sure since i'm not exactly in the market for one.OT but out of interest do they actually cut actual player jerseys to make those cards (I guess). I don´t know what to think about it.
Here is another one I came this || close to getting, but the guy chickened out at last, although you could get it for peanuts then, but it's one of the few 90s cards that have actually grown in price without having a piece of fabric and DNA samples in it:
I paid 10 cents last week to get one. Now I'm missing only 14 cards from that set.
EDIT: Silver version is more expensive. That's normal gold version on the pic?
Never knew there was a "silver version".
This one looks pretty "gold" and is priced at about 30 bucks:

To me, it seems you have won in a lottery. Good luck on assembling the final fourteen.
Silver is very rare. Beckett doesn't even list it. I have only one.
I think $5 is a good deal. How much should I pay for Coca Cola Dream Team Foppa?
