Pretty simple question. What has been your favorite trade made during Ken Holland's reign as GM? Doesn't have to be the best value, but just the trade you liked the most for whatever reason.

Forgot to add Other as an option, but feel free to post other suggestions.

Complete listing of Ken Holland's trade can be found here: http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=576043

Definitely the Chelios trade. "You maybe got 2-3 more years from him." -Chicago source said.

We got 10 years, 2 Cups, defensive prospect developer, super specialist for conditioning, etc...

It is probably the Chelios trade. Filppula was a third round pick don't remember that being traded around either although it could have been.

Least favorite: Robert Lang deal

Cheli with Hasek, Larionov and Stuart being runner up.

Butt I too liked all those trading downs in recent years. The mentioned Ouellet/Jurco deal was the best of those but not the only one!

If they pan out, absolutely. It'll be like having two firsts. With Sproul, that second round looks like an absolute winner.

Basically what we got from Chelios like Henkka said makes that trade the best.

Stuart trade worked well too, since he played an important role in the 08 Cup.

IMHO, while Chelios worked out well, I thought the trade was a bit of overpayment. Eriksson was a young top four defenseman and we put two 1sts on top of him, ad Chelios was declining quickly in Chicago. He was on the outs and probably not returning the next season no matter what.

As for the suggestion that the Lang deal was bad... wrong.

I went with Cheli. The Chelios trade didn't put us immediately over the top like Dom and Stu but he did help to offset the loss of Fischer and continues to provide value - even if he didn't bring us Justin Schultz. :sarcasm:

I was thinking Chelios. But that price was pretty high.
I was thinking Larionov.
Hasek for Kozlov was another important trade.

But I went with Stuart, who was crucial to our most recent cup run and who came at a great price.
As good as Chelios was and as much as I like him, he really only won a single cup here (we was a bit player on the second one). And he cost us 2 firsts and a young defenseman who, though he proved to be a bit of a bust, had a lot of value.

I don't understand how anyone could have voted for the Quincey trade or Bertuzzi trade.

That would be one Michael Green, Shultzy. Also traded Fleischmann who's now a top 6 player. He's like Flip was forever before this last season. Has the chops to play up top, makes the bottom 6 REALLY good if you have no space to slot him on the 2nd line. Like Kopecky was as well.

And I had to go with The Professor. Picking up him and Shanny put us over the hump to end the cup drought (per Holland himself) and we have him to thank for "Red Wings" style hockey we're known for now. Also mentored Datsyuk along with Hull. No Russian 5 without him.

Then you'll love this, we traded our 3rd rounder to Nashville for their 4th rounder to nab goaltender Liv. That third rounder eventually went to Philly for Mark Eaton in which Philly drafted Patrick Sharp. Hindsight is 20/20 though, but man it'd be nice to have had him with Detroit the past 8 years. Of course he'd probably be slotted as a 3rd line winger based on projections.

What's to say the Wings would have picked a Dman let alone green with that pick? The Wings picked forwards with their first two picks that year. there are 4 or 5 other teams that picked dmen before Green that should be more upset. Andrej Meszaros is the only other decent Dman in the first round.

Best trade: Chelios
Worst trades: The other trades made around the deadline. (Samuelsson, Clark, Ranford) ugh... Nothing wrong with Ulfie tho really and picks meant nothing. We couldve probably picked up a better goalie and Clark was a broken down man at that time.

I really liked the Stuart trade because i like what he brought to the table and Holland recognized what the team was missing to put it over the edge. I vote Chelios because he has become an important part of the Wings organization after he retired.

I do wonder what role if any Holland had in some of these trades. Didn't Regier call Holland about his interest in Hasek? Tough to give Holland any credit for that trade. He did answer the phone so he gets +1 for that. His secretary might have answered the phone first though.......soooooo........yeah.

Keep in mind the Larionov trade isn't the original one to bring him to Detroit. It was the trade to reacquire him after he signed with Florida because we were lowballing him.

My favorite trade is easily Jason Williams for Kyle Calder. Man I hated Williams so much and when he was moved I was beside myself with joy. Not the best trade by any means, but finally getting rid of Williams was definitely a fond memory.
