Vermette would have to be the fastest skater I've seen in a long time. I'd like to see him a Koltsov have a race.

Before the draft, there were some mentions about Enver Lisin speed, being one of the fastest of this draft, along with Viktor Alexandrov (not sure about this one).

Fredrik Sjostrom was said to be the fastest of his year's draft.

Could Jozef Balej and Petr Kanko be put in the same boat ?

He was laughing at the fact someone said he will be an allstar, thats pretty obvious. No one disputes he's the fastest.

He's also suffering from an inability to understand English. :shakehead Note how he focused on the first part of the sentence when it was only a setup for the second part.

"Hopefully he makes the all-star team in the coming years so we can see him in the "fastest skater" contest"

Really, he's only saying it would be great to see him in the fastest skater competition, not that he's going to be an all star.

Teemu Laine was one of the fastest in 2001 draft, never seen he and Kovalchuk is a skating compitition. Its sad to see that he was a wasted pick. Here are some quotes about Laine before the draft.

"Some thought he was as good as Gaborik at the start of the season but scouts saw him found him to be very soft."

"Teemu Laine is another highly touted speedster and has the overall skill level to be a top 10 draft choice."

"outstanding skater with excellent speed and balance ... excels in give-and-go situations ... good selection of shots with a quick release ... good puckhandler who is very effective in heavy traffic ... a gritty forward who plays with emotion ... has the ability to be a pest, much like countryman Esa Tikkanen."

"Laine is an aggressive forechecker with soft hands. Good size, terrific speed, and ability to get to open ice makes him a top contender for the first round.Laine was wowing the assembled scouting masses with a highlight reel, one-for-the-memory-banks goal at the Four Nations Under-20 skirmish in Finland."

"Teemu Laine, RW, Jokerit (Finland) The speedy winger may well be the fastest player in the Devils' system. He will certainly draw comparisons to the other Finnish Teemu - it remains to be seen whether or not he has the hands or the competitive drive to be a top-line player in the NHL. Laine was rebuffed from the Finnish junior team, and the Devils hope that it will be a wake-up call."

"Scouts liken him to another Finn, Esa Tikkanen, because of his propensity to agitate. One of the fastest skaters available, he finished the season ranked 16th among European prospects by NHL Central Scouting. Split the season between Jokerit's junior and senior teams, helping the junior squad win the championship. Also won a gold medal with Finland's Under-18 team at the World Championships and represented his country at the World Junior Championships. Was a competitive speed skater before turning to hockey. Possesses a quick shot and is effective in traffic."

petr freakin buzek was an allstar..

That was back in the time when every team had to be represented in the All Star Game, so Atlanta picked him because it was amazing that he was even able to play in the NHL that year on a team that bad. He suffered major injuries that almost cost him his life the summer before in a car wreck. Thats the only reason that no tallent whinning hack was ever named to an all star team.
