If the Leafs and Cats continue to lose, we might not need as many wins as expected to make it.
The Panthers have a history of falling down the standings at this time of the year.
The Leafs have many key injuries.
There's too many teams to beat to make it to the wild card, but there might still be a path to the playoffs in our division...

Let's say... The Panthers are 15-13-1 in their last 29 games. (total : 95 points)
The Leafs are 15-11-2 in their last 28 games (total : 95 points)

Then all of the following records would be enough to qualify (if they get the gamebreaker) :
18-8-0
17-7-2
16-6-4
15-5-6
Forget looking at what other teams have to do. The Habs just have to aim at 99 points. I'm more than positive 99 points gets you into the playoffs. We just need to get 40 of the last 56 points and we're in. It doesn't matter what the teams ahead of us are going to do.

A win Saturday against the Leafs, one Monday against the Coyotes (who have 2 wins in their last 10), combined with losses on Saturday and Sunday by Florida and we're right at the gates.

Only problem is that Florida has 3 games on hand.

We have 26 games left as of Feb 7. Or to put it another way 52 points. We have 59 points in the bank. I'm betting that 99 points gets you into the playoffs. That means we need to earn 40 of the last 52 points. An extremely difficult but not impossible task.

My gut tells me MB will wait till the week before TDL. That means the players have from tomorrow's game against the Leafs till the game against Dallas to impress MB. That's 5 games. If the Habs win them all or lose just one, he may roll the dice and let them go for it. I wouldn't wait past that Dallas game and I wouldn't be a buyer. If, on the other hand, they lose more than one game then MB should look at preparing this team for the future.
Crazy that it will take 99 to get there but that's what the math looks like.

However, if Florida/TO fall apart then the Habs could get in with the 3rd spot in the Atlantic. If that's the case then they may not necessarily need the 99.

Either way... I don't think we're making the playoffs. We're too far out. TO and Florida would really have to fall apart for that to happen.

Habs will make the playoffs. Book it.
Where do you want us to book it? In the King James' version or Grimm's Fairy Tales.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound so negative. I think they still have a chance but I wouldn't go out and guarantee it.

Forget about T.O. and Florida. I don't think they'll finish the year with 99 points.

Ok I've been on the other side of the fence most often then not this season and I'm still more interested in a high pick than a failed playoffs run, but IF they beat the Leafs in regulation tomorrow, I might switch sides.

suzuki gaining confidence. Already a better player then Domi.

Weber out hurts though.

It's really nice that we've solidified the top two lines:

Tatar Danault Gallagher
Kovalchuk Suzuki Armia

Now hopefully Drouin coming back (and the emergence of Evans?) will solidify the 3rd line.

Lehkonen Domi Evans/Drouin

Lehkonen Domi Evans/Drouin
Kovalchuck - Suzuki - Gallagher
Tatar - Danault - Armia

Suzuki is the 1C now, he’s INFINITELY better than Danault.

yeah, I'm just posting that at least Julien's top two lines. They are not what I'd do. But at least they are effective enough. Lehkoen-Suzuki-Armia is not good enough.

I wouldn't mind seeing the lines you proposed, but give it less than 1% chance of happening. Tatar-Danault-Gallagher have been virtually inseparable since the moment Tatar arrived. And Julien doesn't change up his lines very often.

Julien is pure junk. When doesn’t Gallagher get a shot with our best centerman?? What about Gallagher?? He has to keep carrying Danault? We don’t need a “suppression specialist grinder” as a top 2 centerman. Why can’t Gallagher have Suzuki the best center since he’s the best RW? Anything and Everything just to keep the new Chou Chou relevant. Why doesn’t Domi get a chance with Tatar and Gallagher? Domi is the guy we should be giving an offensive role to, we should be showcasing him for a future trade. But no, everything revolves around Chou Chou Danault now.

We're talking about a coach who refused to try Gallagher with Pacioretty during Pacioretty's last season here when he was slumpling badly. Pacioretty and Gallagher had played really well in the past together with prime Plekanec as their center or DD. but Julien kept gallagher welded to washed up Plekanec until the deadline. gallagher proceeded to score at a 40 goal over 82 game pace when he was freed from Plekanec. it is what it is.

Can't even imagine how many Gallagher would get with Kovalchuk and Suzki or Tatar and Domi.

He’s by far our best player and he’s a rookie! Putting Domi and Danault to shame, especially Domi because he actually has offensive skills, he’s just not smart enough on the ice.

Suzuki is the 1C right now, Danault can suck an egg, I hope you people are starting to see what a real playmaking center looks like, Danault is nothing but a point leacher.

I like the fight in this team. They're getting a lot closer than I ever thought. I think they've won 9 of 12. Big issue is the games in hand everyone has.

Montreal should beat Arizona Monday, but the rest of the week is very very tough. Boston & Pittsburgh on the road then Dallas at home on a back to back.
