A year-long lockout benefits no one and does nothing to bring the two sides together.

The average fan doesn't care about the business side of the sport. They just want to see hockey.

Someone should start some sort of lawsuit and a public relations campaign against both sides in the fans' interest.

If I wasn't under contract in South Korea I'd do it.

Somebody do something.

And quick.

This case would be tossed out so fast it's not even funny.

They provide a product to you, NOT a service. It's like suing a Hollywood studio because they haven't released a movie in a year or suing Suave because they stopped making Men's conditioner and you want it (oops, did I say that?).

If you get a judge that's a hockey fan and you've got a great lawyer representing the case it might get past the first 5 minutes but nothing but a PR mess for BOTH the NHL and NHLPA would come out of it (not to mention wasted time and $$$).

The Activision sued Viacom for similar.

If all overwhelming large group of season ticket holders get together, it wouldn't "thrown out so fast it won't be funny".

This is a completely different monkey here...

Activision was losing money because of Viacom's management of the "enterprise" (a.k.a. NHL).

How is a fan losing money? They're bored and upset but not losing money financially.

If ANYBODY could sue in these instances it would be arenas, sponsors, or TV stations... NOT the fans.

The season ticket holders have deposits down which they will get back if there is no season. Activision puts tons of $$$ into their product and hope to turn a profit on it. It is a COMPLETELY different monkey.

Activision has a contract with Viacom. The only contract a fan has with an NHL team is the fan paying their season ticket balance, if there is no season, there's nothing to pay.

And specifically in regards to my comment about suing a Hollywood studio. A patron cannot sue a Hollywood studio for not releasing a movie in a year and in the hockey world a patron = fan/season ticket holder. Where as Activision had a contract so it's a COMPLETELY different monkey.

Didn't Senator fans try this with Yashin when he was holding out and it blew up in their faces....?

I believe so yes. As stated before season ticket holders have no legal standing in any of these messes.

Essentially a sponsor could've sued Yashin for sitting out since he had a contract but it wasn't worth it.

Again, the only people that could sue over a lock out COULD be the arenas, sponsors, and TV stations. Even then my guess is only an arena would sue a team to help recoup some of it's revenue.

Let me be clear: I don't accept the game of chicken they're playing because neither will waiver.

Fans of hockey should be angry with both sides equally if the NHL doesn't start.

To try to sue both the NHL and the PA is a way to publicize fan frustration.

Here's the sentiment: Lock the two sides in a room until they've got a decision they both can live with over the short term.

Or pressure them to go to binding arbitration, on a one-year deal at least.

Plan a protest demonstration or other action.

Come on, think outside the box.

If we all stand by and do nothing then we deserve what we will get... nothing.

If anything it's a waste of time and money, both of which should be spent by the NHL on solving this not spending time on a stupid fan lawsuit.

Demonstrate all you want, it'll do nothing.

The fans have a small voice (the NHLFA) and even that won't get anything solved. That is the only voice of the fan the NHL or NHLPA will even consider listening to.

How do we go about organizing a nation wide protest? There is a group out there already but they have about 10,000 members who sit on there hands and talk alot. We should all assemble at the League office and mass protest! :help:

Protest all you want, hire lawyers and throw around frivolous lawsuits, stamp your feet and hold your breath until you pass out...the NHL and NHLPA couldn't care less.

You want to get their attention? REALLY have them stand up and take notice?

Don't renew your seasons tickets.
Spend your money elsewhere.
Stay away from their arenas in droves.
Want your hockey fix? Watch college or major junior or AHL.

When the idiot savants running this league finally decide to start things up again after a year and change, imagine if they came back to half empty buildings, limp corporate interest, and ZERO initiative from the US networks to give them a TV contract worth anything. With a league as heavily dependant on gate revenues as the NHL, they would pay attention.

Too bad the chances of this happening in the real world are about a billion to one.

Think about it for just one second...

You obviously could care less about the business side of hockey. So if the NHL just breaks and gives the NHLPA what they want, and in 2-3 years, the NHL goes bankrupt and folds, meaning no more NHL..ever...you won't give a rats ass?

Keep in mind the possible hypocricies of what you are saying here.

Gary Bettman will likely throw water balloons out of his office at you.

Folks... fans will get NOTHING accomplished in this ordeal. It's up to the owners and the union, nobody else. A lot of other people have a lot more to lose than fans (arenas, sponsors, TV) and they won't even listen to them.
