The Devils made a major move in the trade market today, acquiring feisty young defenseman Dmitry Kulikov from the Florida Panthers in exchange for the 4th overall pick in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, top prospect Jon Merrill, and two other prospect defenseman.
Lou Lamierello talked about his motivation in making this deal:
" We feel that Dmitry is an up and coming star in this league. He's reminiscent of a young Duncan Keith. And while we may have overpayed to obtain his services, we feel it will be worth it in the long run. This kid is a #1, two-way defenseman in the making, and that is exactly what we need right now more than anything. "

I'm surprised by the lack of interest in Alex Semin and Mike Green...Only a couple of teams have asked about them and I've had no offers for them.
Nicklas Backstrom has generated a little bit of interest and a couple of offers but nothing close to making me want to trade him.
Same with Semyon Varlamov and Michal Neuvirth. These are two young #1 goalies and it seems like nobody wants them.

confirm this deal, Its tough to lose a player like Kulikov but we are confident in finding another player like him, this now gives us the 3rd and 4th overall pick in this years draft and we are looking forward to the rebuild that is going on down here in Florida.
