The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the club has signed three free agents. Zenon Konopka, Kevin Bieksa and Ty Conklin will all don the blue and gold next season. Konopka has agreed to a 2 year, $2.6M deal with the club (1.3M per) to come in the bottom six. Kevin Bieksa inked a 4 year, $17M deal (4.25M per) along with a limited no-trade clause (12 team no-trade list). Finally, Ty Conklin was brought in on a 2 year, $2M deal (1M per) to back-up Ryan Miller.

"Zenon will give us one of the biggest pain in the ass lines in the entire NHL alongside Kyle Clifford and Zack Kassian. Kevin is a steady defenseman who is solid defensively and can also chip in offensively a little. Ty will likely not see much action behind Ryan, but his experience and poise will be a welcome addition to our club. We are pleased to have these three join us."

Fine Tuning a Fine Finish; Leafs ink Nugent-Hopkins, Halpern, White

The Toronto Maple Leafs made a major step forward towards long term competitiveness today, inking 1st overall selection Ryan Nugent-Hopkins to a 3 years, max Entry Level Contract today.

"Ryan cost us a sizeable price for the future, but we paid it happily to have a potential franchise centre. We fully expect him to be a part of the Maple Leafs next season. We're thrilled to have him on board, and foresee him playing on our 3rd line between Nazem Kadri and Colby Armstrong." Leafs GM TribalPhoenix stated at the Air Canada Centre this evening.

The Leafs also made a pair of signings to solidify both their blueline, forward contingent and special teams by inking former Maple Leaf Ian White to a 3 year, 6.75M$ contract that will pay him 2.25M$ per season, as well as signing depth forward Jeff Halpern to a 2 year, 2.2M$ contract.

"We welcome Ian back to Toronto, where he enjoyed his greatest professional success. He will provide us valuable depth on our 3rd pairing while also picking up valuable 2nd unit powerplay time. Jeff Halpern will solidify our 4th line centre ice position and provide valuable experience in our locker room, while also providing sound effectiveness on our penalty kill which was sorely lacking this past season."
