Not to take away from what CC is doing and this is not negative in the slightest towards him, but I think what Olofsson is doing on the Sabres powerplay with his fantastic shot, is really shows that no matter what, Caufield will have a place in an NHL lineup because of how good he is on the PP. He's going to come into the Habs lineup and put up a ton of goals on that PP.

We saw a lot more PP specialists in the early 2000's like with a Jason Allison, players who couldn't necessarily thrive at 5 on 5 for whatever deficiency they had (Allison it was skating) and I wonder if we'll start to see more of a pattern change towards that. Especially with some teams having like bottom of the lineup players getting minimal minutes. Not that I don't think Caufield can't play 5 on 5, but I do still wonder about his size and play against bigger bodies in even strength play.
Maybe I just want to see him play more in college but that's why I'd like to see him do two years so round his game out steadily and build out his frame with all the off-ice time. I could see Montreal looking at that sharpshooting element and wanting him in the mix real soon though

Habs PP is atrocious because we generally have one big weapon out there (Weber) and it's incredibly predictable. Adding someone like Caufield who is always a scoring threat is exactly what the doctor ordered for us. It's obviously a year or two away before he's going to make an impact with us but there is no one in the pipeline either who could be that. If there's one thing we lost with Galchenyuk's departure it was that and boom we suddenly had the worst PP in the league (not that black and white but you get the point). Obviously Caufield needs to also contribute on the 5 on 5 play if he wants to be a regular in the NHL but I don't really see much indication why he wouldn't be able to do that.

Paul Byron is 158lbs. Scored 20+ in the league plays the PK, etc, size/weight isnt everything in sports my man.

Hopefully he’s in the N next year. Kid is an NHL caliber goal scorer right now. Should have made it this year.

No doubt his shot and goal scoring ability is NHL ready but is the rest of his game?

Time will tell.

The hype over Suzuki and Poehling has fallen flat, although to be fair preseason hype for young players almost always does.

I'm not sure what you mean by "should". When he signed his letter of intent it meant he was unable to attend anything beyond the development camp. If he hadn't signed to play in the NCAA he "could" have made the club.
