3 years, $2.5M per. I think he would sign it today since he's coming off that shoulder injury. End up spending less than $10M on 4 of the top 6 spots in 2020 for:

Rielly
Dermott-Liljegren
Sandin

Then you have about $8.5-9M to decide between Barrie (hopefully), Muzzin,Ceci.

His money needs to be put towards Barrie and Muzzin extensions. He's also a likely target for Seattle if they're both re-signed. It should be his last year here unless they open up cap space and find a way around exposing him.

I would keep the 22 year old Dermott over the 30 year old Muzzin. He'll be cheaper and will probably be better in a year or two.

I would not want him on a bridge...I think later into his mid to late 20s he could become a real good top pairing level puck mover if he develops...I would want to try to get him long term somewhere in the 4.5-5 range..Unless his season isnt very good then maybe 3.5-4 range.

3x3 makes sense. I want to see Dermott play on the second pair consistently before I give him any kind of extension. He needs to show that he can handle tougher minutes.

He should be fairly easy to lock up long term for cheap.

Doesnt really have much production, hasnt proven to be anything more than an excellent bottom pairing defender (in sheltered role). I think he is pretty much ready for a 2nd pairing role but struggled a little bit last year when his usage/Qoc was increased.

He should be one of those great value contracts as he peaks midway through a long term deal.

If you can get him on a 5 year for $3.75 AAV or under I think that’s a good move. A moveable contract if he struggles but also could be a bargain if he improves.

2 x 2.1M. Love Dermott, but he hasn't yet played outside a very sheltered 3rd pairing role.

Agreed, we should definitely be using the same approach as we did with Rielly and Gardiner.

"Dermott's camp have been closely watching the contracts the peers on his team are getting and word is they are looking at 6M per year. My sense is this one is going to be tough for the leafs as he deserves that type of contract and I'm expecting him to be a prime target for an offer sheet".

"Leafs are happy to announce they've signed Travis Dermott to a 3 year contract at 3M per year".
