The Iafallo contract will really be the first major decision Blake has to make in the post-Oct 2018 era. Everything since then has been on the easy side. You knew exactly who had to go, who could go, and pretty much when they would go. Is Iafallo a 3rd liner? Is he a top 2 line guy on a good team? Do you invest what will likely have to be somewhere around a 5 year/$25m contract in him, as he turns 28 relatively early in the first year of that deal?

The Kings have cap space, and will continue to have cap space, for a number of upcoming seasons. Doesn't mean you can waste it though. Not that signing Iafallo would necessarily be wasting it.

Who cares!

Iafallo slid in on Kopi’s LW and stuck where so many before him failed.

Iafallo is doing just fine where he is and keeping Kopi in they 70+ point range.

Don’t go trying to fix what ain’t broke. Lots of other places where mending is needed.

If he isn't traded he will be resigned. We are not losing him for nothing. Right now all indications look like we will keep him as a bridge player until a prospect can steal his spot.

I would not pay him more than $4 million for 3 years. I love his game and think he is great, but I don’t see him lighting the world on fire to get a big payday. We also have a lot of competition for roster spots. That said, I hope he is open to a short-term bridge deal. Ideally, we can move him to the third line in a few years where is tenacity would be appreciated.

Right now because of the state of the league and the impact of covid-19, a lot of contracts are coming in under what they would under normal circumstances. I think Iafallo is going to sign for less than what normal market value is.

Who cares, when he's on an ELC, or even a $2.4m contract.

LA Kings 2019/2020 season.

Second leading scorer - Alex Iafallo with 43 points, on pace for 50 in an 82 game season.

Second only to Kopi who had 62 - on pace for 72.

Go look see what LW in that point range brings in on CapFriendly. $4-5M would still be a bargain.

And that's the question. Is Iafallo just the best of what the Kings have had to throw out there, or is he a real 50 point guy? His best seasons have been on two terrible teams. Being that he'll be 28 next Dec, is he a 50 point player every year going forward? The Kings likely won't really be in the conversation for a couple more years, and that's assuming the building blocks work out. Iafallo will be 30 by then. Usually, when offering a decent contract to a UFA, what you really want are the first few years, but you end up having to pay for the last few. Unless the Kings are ready to start making a push next year, what are you buying if you give Iafallo a 50 point player contract? Are you getting a 50 point guy 3 years from now, or is he a 35 point guy? Is he attached to Kopitar? What if Kopitar is a 3rd line guy at that point?

I don’t understand your reasoning at all.

Iafallo is not the best the Kings had, he is the one that worked on Kopi’s LW.

There was a long list of sexier names that tried out in that spot and didn’t do so well. Heck, we had Clifford, King, and Lewis all playing LW1 at times, then a long list 30-goal scoring fails up there.

the kid has done nothing but deliver, 50% better on the score sheet, season after season, without cheating or sacrificing his 200 foot game.

So let’s say we sign him for $4-5M on a 3-year deal, and in a couple seasons him and Kopi end up on the third line ... what’s the downside?

Most of our blue-chip prospects are still on their ELCs, save for Vilardi, Brown and Carter are off the books, and if Kopi is on the 3rd line, we are celebrating two of Byfield, Vilardi, Turcotte rocking the top center spots.

In the meantime you get a reliable winger with a modern motor that works with our legendary center and keeps him young.

I seriously don’t see where that money would be better spent with less risk.

A year ago, before the start of last season - I would not have called Alex a top 6 forward. By the conclusion of last season, I would, however. I believe he finally
made the grade. His overall game and numbers improved to be able to attain that status. Does not mean he's one of the top LW's at all. Just means he's
one of the best 62. 2 LW x 31 teams = 62 top 6 LW's. He would have topped 20 goals, in a full season.

With his off season of working hard on his shot, it should bode well even more, going forward.

Iafallo earns his ice time. If Kopitar is going to be the 1C this season, having Iafallo as his main winger is a no lose move. You can also pair them as the third forward pair on the PK. I think the biggest question about Iafallo is his long term future with the team.

Kopitar’s deal runs out in 3 more seasons after this one. Giving IA a 3 year, 4.5 million contract would be appropriate and good value all around. He can ride shotgun with Kopitar and provide solid production while optimizing Anze.

He might get more from another club if he goes out and threatens to scores 20 goals in a shortened season. If he wants more than 4 years and $5M, at some point this season he may be worth trading if you can upgrade on D. That may be easier to do if another forward steps up and breaks out with goals.

This is madness !!!!!!!!!!

We are talking about a guy scoring in the 40 points range playing with Kopitar.
If not playing with elite talent he doesn't get anything done on his own.
He has the talent and gritt of a 3rd liner
He gets 1.8-2 mil and that's it.
