There's alot of quality players available...which makes this "gamble" not as much of one IMO.

The Krakken would be insane to saddle themselves with Price contract.

But if they want too...by all means.
i dont recall vegas having such a good crop.

Covid Cap and giving freebies to vegas. New mentality going forward in this one

So in order to protect Allen, we will lose our 1st. Well that retained money better make us acquire players 'cause if not, you could have given our 2nd for Allen.
Not just Allen but adding several million to the cap.

As others have mentioned, maybe Price asked to be left unprotected for the possibility of heading back home. He probably figures that both options are good for him and his family.

A) He stays in Montreal when he's lived the past 14-15 years
B) He heads back home to be closer to his and his wife's family.

Win/Win for him.

And a month ago y’all were like “he’s protecting price and Weber” and we’re going to get f***ed in the expansion draft. Well lookie here, y’all didn’t know bergy can play same 4D chess himself. Y’all thought he was slower than cream rising on the buttermilk

If Seattle grabs Price or Weber we end up with solid cap space in a flat cap world where there are lots of opportunities to put it to good use. We also managed to protect Allen & Chiarot as a result. Got to score Bergevin an A+ for the way he's playing this one.

Exposing Drouin is likely a sign that Bergevin is worried about his future or he's banking that Seattle will be scared off by lack of info on what's troubling him. Interesting risk, especially with an extra slot available that we used on Armia. Too hard to judge because we don't know what's really happening with Drouin.

Protecting Armia is a head-scratcher. Could we not have grabbed a 7th forward this week and added him to our protected list? He must have full confidence that he can re-sign Armia to a favourable deal - but you also got to think that Armia just gained some bargaining power. If you're expecting Drouin to bounce back shouldn't he have been protected over Armia? Armia over Danault - does that mean Bergevin has less confidence of our chances of signing Danault or is a deal already in place? Things that make you go hmmmm?

The rest of our availables are pretty straight-forward:
Brandon Baddock (F)
Joseph Blandisi (F)
Paul Byron (F)
Phillip Danault (F)
Laurent Dauphin (F)
Jonathan Drouin (F)
Michael Frolik (F)
Charles Hudon (F)
Corey Perry (F)
Michael Pezzetta (F)
Eric Staal (F)
Tomas Tatar (F)
Lukas Vejdemo (F)
Jordan Weal (F)
Cale Fleury (D)
Erik Gustafsson (D)
Brett Kulak (D)
Jon Merrill (D)
Gustav Olofsson (D)
Xavier Ouellet (D)
Shea Weber (D)
Charlie Lindgren (G)
Michael McNiven (G)
Carey Price (G)

Is it possible that Seattle has a deal in place for Montreal to leave Price unprotected? Maybe Seattle added draft picks/unprotected players from other teams as part of this deal? For a GM who has stated he believes in building a team from the crease out, leaving Price unprotected is perplexing.

There are no side deals this time, GMs have learned and are now gangbanging Francis

No, I mean where Seattle paid Montreal to leave Price unprotected. I thought I heard that deals with Seattle will not be announced until Wednesday?

Seattle is not going to chose Price and his contract when there are tons of solid goalies available for half the cap hit or less and if they do, they’re doing our franchise a huge favour (no disrespect to Carey Price the player).

They would be much better off taking a chance on other big contracts that have been left exposed like Jake Voracek or PK Subban.
