This should lend credence to the PA-supporter's claims that the WHA is a viable alternative to the NHL and is, in fact, the ace up Bobby G's sleeve.

In two games this weekend, the Motor City Mechanics. Yes, the same Motor City Mechanics sporting the likes of Derian Hatcher, Chris Chelios, and Bryan Smoliski drew home crowds of 1,535 and 2,204......in a building that holds over 4,000 spectators.

Don't worry, Hatcher is repping the PA brotherhood with style (-1 in 10 games).

Sounds fantastic. That league is seriously lucky to have the fabulous Hatcher on board.

I'm surprised this thread is not getting more posts. I'd like to hear how rebel leagues are going to pose a threat against the NHL. Or are more people starting to come to their senses and starting to realize that a rebel league with low pay (and not much interest shown by businessmen who want to take a stake in a rebel league) is destined for failure.

WHA threw a lot of money to steal some stars from the NHL, and look what ended up happening to that league. I'd love to see them try again... see what buildings they'd be playing in... how many seats they can fill... how many season tickets and luxury suites they can sell... how many multimillioni sponsors they can obtain... see what media outlet would televise their games... and how much these players would be getting paid in such a league. Is there anybody out there who can answer all these questions?

Who is this guy:

"Here’s why Bob Goodenow had better make a deal - pronto! According to a good friend of a first-line player, the NHLPA member rose at the last players’ meeting and confronted The Boss. “Bob,†he said, “I’m broke and I’m gonna lose $700,000 if I don’t play next year. And I don’t wanna go to Europe. Where are we gonna be next season?†Goodenow couldn’t answer him!"

is it Mike Modano???

There's a whole thread here on the topic. Sounds like the words of a guy low on his doggie ribbons and bows to me...

Stan needs to get his facts correct, the games were sold out. The Mechanics have tried to contact Stan with the correct numbers.

Yeah, I can attest to that. I got turned away 2 weeks ago looking for standing room tickets.

What this proves actually is that detroit is not hockey-town but rather Red Wings town.

What do you think is going to happen when the NHL dresses these Motor City Mechanics as NHLers and replacements ..

Shouldn't the NHL be getting a hint from the interest in these players ..

How does proving Stan Fischler wrong do that?

Stan Fischler had nothing to do with my comments. It just proved that people in Detroit want to watch the Red Wings, not some second rate minor league team.

I've heard from many people that these games were half empty before the 3 Red Wings joined that team and that proves they are coming to see those 3 not the the team.

Honestly, the most entertaining thing about that was that Chelios got 2 for instigating, 5 for fighting and a ten minute misconduct for fighting Dave Stewart.

*snicker*

Chelios was talking about that on the radio yesterday, he said Stewart ran the goalie so Chelios had to fight him. Chelios sais he wished he would have known Stewart was a lefty before they dropped the gloves. He said Stewart got him with a nice shot in the forehead.

i have a question about this... if I am a season ticket holder with the Maple Leafs (I am not)... and I refuse to renew my tickets... is there not a long waiting list for seasons tickets there... do I not lose my tickets... so would it not be in my best interest to keep them if I have had them in my family for years?

Same goes for the Canucks, Rangers etc., is there going to buy a lot of season ticket holders not renewing and losing their seats? just curious how this will work..

That's definitely a valid point. I think both sides should realize that need one another.

The stats on the UHL pages indicate otherwise. I presume this is where Stan got his numbers.
