Canada golas by ALZNER,MARCHAND,DOWNIE ,COGLIANO and TOEWS...1st 3 goals were on the PP....

Multi-point games for: ALZNER (1G+2A) ;Cogliano +Downey (1G+2A each) and Toews (1G+1A)....

The surprise is ALZNER's performance--much has been written about the 5 returning vet D-men who would lead this team--but if Alzner is this good in the tournament games as a point on the PP,then Canada is even stronger than expected on the backline...

If Alzner plays like this he'll cement his pick as the 1st D-man to be taken in the '07 draft and possibly he'll go #1 or #2 overall..

Indeed, the Finnish box score seems more complete, as the last 2 goals were scored in the third period, and Hockey Canada for wtv reason hasn't gotten them yet.

So 5-2 final. It seems Price was in goal for Canada, and the shot totals aren't listed, but the first Finnish goal was during a 5-on-3 (according to Hockey Canada), so seems like a good first start for the goalie.

No surprise.I've always thought the HockeyCanada website very subpar and is run amateurish over the years i've been checking it.No excuse for the job they do.

Their incorrect score here is typical of what i've witnessed over time.

I was there. Canada deserved their win. Especially they were much faster than Finnish players and had many good attacks. ALready in first period Canada had two breakaways but failed to score (another was Little and I think another was Cogliano)

Franson made couple of bad passes early in the game but Finland couldn't take advantage of them.

Goals:

0-1 Alzner shot from the blueline. Traffic in front.
0-2 Downie passed ahead of the net to Marchand who could score easily. 5-on-3.
1-2 Laakso shot from the blueline. 5-on-3.
1-3 Downie tried to pass to Marchand but puck went in from Finnish player.
1-4 2-on-1 attack, Cogliano decided to shoot himself.
1-5 Rask put puck back in the play but couldn't clear it. Toews took the puck and scored. Big mistake by Rask.
2-5 Good pass by Lehterä from the corner to Sopanen who was ahead of the goal. One-timer shot.

For the first two periods, Rask was the more impressive one. Price barely faced any real shots and the goal by Laakso went in after it hit Prices glove (I'm saying it looked like a weakish goal) and Rask made amazing saves, but then in the third period Rask made a few mistakes, first the Downie goal and then the Toews goal where he literally gave the puck to Toews to put in the empty net. Rask had it in his glove but for some reason decided he wanted to keep the play going and tried to clear it out of the zone.

Quick notes:

-Oskar Osala, I love you
-Laakso had a pretty good game (well, he was selected as the best player on Team Finland after the game and I agreed with that choice)
-Komarov surprised me positively, as did Kantola and Enlund who all played a pretty good game
-Could someone tell Lindgren, Lehtonen and Joensuu what the game is all about. Or alternatively remind them that none of them is Wayne Gretzky. Stupid blind passes (even in the defensive zone, even a Pejorative Slur wouldn't do that there), slow skating, trying to deke through the whole team and never succeeding, lots of standing around... I expect them to improve before the tournament.
-Jalvanti... words can not describe how bad he was today.
-Lehterä, Sopanen and Sandell, pretty invisible throughout the entire game, but then a nice play (especially a nice pass from Lehterä) at the end that led to a goal.

-Steve Downie has mental problems. Mike Tyson quality. He looked like he eats babies for lunch and missed lunch. I think he's on steroids.
-Alzner was really good, one of the more noticeable Canadian D-men.
-Canadians skated and passed much better than anyone on Team Finland, but otherwise they weren't "scary good" like they've been the past few years. Especially the days with Crosby and Phaneuf... They're definitely beatable if they don't improve much, although I assume they will.

Sheesh, give the kid a break. Franson is new to all of this and he's only 19 years old. He's playing for Team Canada for the first time and then you add in traveling all the way to Sweden and playing on the bigger rinks under a ton of pressure - it's not surprising if he's nervous. He's a smart kid, he'll settle down. Better he makes his mistakes and gets over his nerves in the exhibition games - that's what they're for.
