I think Lundqvist would be the better choice to start against Carolina. Call me crazy, but I genuinely trust him in big game situations. Especially if he is well rested and had a strong camp.

That said, neither goalie let up a bad goal this game. I think we are overly critical of goalies as fans. The shots that beat Shesterkin and Lundqvist literally happen to every goalie every game.

technically, if that were true no-one would ever get a shutout...

The studies show it raises your expected win percentage but I don't think it takes into account that the other team scoring makes that number basically zero.

Studies actually show the earlier you pull the goalie, the better. But that’s not always the case every single game obviously

But he got Ovechkin to buy in to defensive hockey. He did score 15 goals in the playoffs, but I've never seen Ovechkin back check like that, get in shooting lanes and blocking shots, etc.
