I hope Pens trade Malkin, it is painful to watch who that guy is playing with on the same line, Malkin can play skilled game and also power forward physical game, he would be great fin on any team, but playing for Chicago would be the most awesome, Malkin would probably get to 120points centering Kane and Sharp

Strange concept. My guess is its for people who's team isn't doing well, so gotta support the conference. Everybody wants to have something to be proud of I guess.

Fans of teams that miss the playoffs like to tell themselves they'd be perennial eastern conference champs

Making a general statement that West is so much better is just silly, West has 4 great teams in La, Chi, STL and Ducks that are a step ahead of every other team in the league, the reast of the teams are pretty even across both conferences

Just looking at the overall conference records tells you the West is better overall. Team-by-team you can make different cases, but the West currently has a better record versus the East than vice versa.

East verus West = +7 in the win column
West versus East = +28 in the win column

The loser ties of course mess up the numbers, making for fewer losers than winners.

People say the west is more physical, but that's probably just because LA has a rough image and has 2 cups. Is the west actually more physical? Has any one perused the data?

It absolutely is a more physical brand, especially when they are playing eachother.

Saying something along the lines of "Malkin couldn't handle it" is hilarious though. Anyone can handle it and score in it. There's just more physicality.

Yeah I really don't think his numbers would take a hit at all.

Again though, the whole premise is kind of silly. He isn't getting dealt.

Exactly.

If Hudler can be a top 10 scorer from the West...I think Malkin would be just fine.

Edmonton is the one of the only teams that actually has the assets to acquire him.

not really, the west usually has around 3-5 garbage teams and the east usually has 6-8.

Probably a PPG player?

He wont be the 90-100 one he is in the East.

And to those that say West isn't tough...well if East was that "tough", why do the Oilers do better against the East? :sarcasm:

Pretty much this. I like how people are saying he would look so good with "so and so," completely forgetting that whatever team that got him would probably have to give up "so and so."

How do the western conference players manage to stay alive in this brutal, vicious conference...

Also Malkin is probably a ppg player in the west? I Malkin were to go the west he would be the conference's best offensive player bar none.
