Our scoring leaders are more or less the usual suspects, namely;

Kap
JEE
Zucc
Boldy
Fab(!)
Rossi
Hartman

However, the ES scoring tells another, somewhat surprising story.

Rossi - 25
JEE - 25
Kap - 23
Boldy - 21
Hart - 21
Fab -20
Marjo - 20
Foligno -18
Midd - 17
Zucc - 17
Maroon - 15

Rossi's ES numbers speak very well for his play, but it's interesting to see how much all of the other players are more or less clumped together. I never would've guessed that Marjo and Foligno(hardly known for their scoring) would be within a few points of Kaprizov, or that Middleton, considered a defensive #4/5D, would be tied with Zucc.

Oh, and Freddy G stinks.

And if you narrow it down to just 5v5:

1. Rossi 24
2. Ek 21
3. Boldy 19
4. Kaprizov 19
5. Johansson 18
6. Hartman 17
7. Zuccarello 17
8. Faber 17
9. Foligno 15
10 Maroon 15

It's quite a contrast to two years ago, when Kap, then Fiala, were the clear leaders in ES points on the team. Hopefully it is not suggesting that Kap has already peaked, and that his best play has already happened, but there is a mountain of evidence to suggest that players peak between 22-26.

I mean, all of Kaprizov, Boldy and Zucc have missed a decent chunk of games... These numbers don't mean much.

It's premature, but if BG can make a Fiala type deal for Kap in his final year then it might be wise to move on.

The investment in players as they age into their 30's is beyond stupid, for me.

This is why I wouldn't have minded a bridge deal for Boldy, and wouldn't mind one for Faber or Rossi. Take him until ~25 and then an 8 year deal takes him to ~33. Then you don't have to make the decision on him at 29 and pay top dollar for the 30-37 years.

Yes, you may end up paying more for the 25-33 years, but if you could pick the ones to do it, those would be it.

5v5 scoring the last 3 years:

Kaprizov 114

Hartman 94
Zuccarello 89

Eriksson Ek 79
Boldy 76

ES last 3 years:

Kaprizov 143

Hartman 107
Zucc 106

Eriksson Ek 92
Boldy 86

But yeah, let's trade Kaprizov. That would be Minnesota sports in a nutshell.

Kap & Zucc haven’t worked for awhile now - the book is out on how to defend them. Take away the cross-ice one timer and they aren’t very dangerous at even strength. They also are incapable of getting the puck back after they (Zucc) turn it over.

This is some solid research by @57special .

The thing that really stands out to me is how it confirms what my eyes are telling me in regards to Zuccarello. He's 3rd in points, but 10th in ES points. I think he's at his best as a 2nd (or even 3rd) liner who plays the 1st powerplay, now. His even strenght play has really declined.

There is a clear downward trend with Kaprizov. I am not saying to trade him now, but i am saying it can't be off the table if he is demanding Big Star money, while not playing like one, in his final year.
He has never been the same player, for me, since Stanley sat on him. Still vg, but not an elite, top 10-15 player. Right now, maybe top 30 or so, at best. Paying a guy like that 11-12M with most of his term in his 30's is a losing proposition.

I would be more concerned if there wasn't an injury explanation.
