As is the case with every boarding penalty.

(Not that boarding was correctly assessed on the ice.)

    We weren't.

I think the Jets' top six are on a strict no-fight order after Wheeler started dropping them at every opportunity at the start of the season.

Byfuglien is allowed to fight anyone who's willing to go with him.

    Basically Radko Gudas.

    What's your excuse?
Didn't Kane Break his hand last year in a fight? The only way he goes is if the other player (And Kane) take off their helmets to fight. (+2 min for both.)

Also our D are probably on strict No Fighting orders because of injuries. Buff off the ice for 5+ min means Mark Stuart is our 2nd best defenseman. :shudder:

Correct, sort of. He cut his hand, which later got infected, in a fight. In garbage time against Eric Brewer:

True, but it didn't matter because Radko Gudas was nowhere to be seen.

Another step towards banning hits from hockey.

Sucks as a Jets fan, but as a hockey fan I don't mind if the NHL "really" tries to get hits from behind out of the game.

The frustrating thing is the mind blowing lack of consistency displayed in their evaluations IMO. In this thread alone I would consider the Enstrom, Martin, Postma, and Nolan hits all worse. And I'm sure there are dozens if not multiple dozens more.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised with the lack of consistency, but it doesn't make it less frustrating.

You would say no too if you were Kane and a career 3rd liner was just trying to goad you to take you off the ice with him.

Stupid selfish play. No need to drill a guy in the numbers like that.

Kane should turn down Beleskey 10 times out of 10. Or do you think Perry should be fighting Chris Thorburn too?

Not excusing the hit or complaining about the suspension ( it is a crap shoot with suspensions anyway)

What bothers me is the ever increasing trend of players facing the boards instead of bracing for a hit.

Beleskey has 1 goal less then Kane since the start of last season, 9 more goals then Kane this season. Let me know when Thorburn is matching Perry's goalscoring, thanks.

But you're right, I wouldn't want an important player like Beleskey dropping the gloves with some scrub who only has 4 goals this season either.

How is he supposed to brace for a hit when playing the puck like that?

Who is it that decides these things, anyways? The people responsible for making threads should really get their act together.

I'm sorry, but this irks me whenver I see it. If there's no thread about something that you think should be talked about, then make a thread. It takes a second. Not everyone sees every game, hit, fight, infraction against humanity, etc. I woulnd't blame it all on the hive mind.

    Belesky - 293GP 38G = 0.164 G/GP

    Kane - 344GP 103G = 0.3 G/GP

    You were saying?

FYI...Belesky is 3 years older as well.

...the video and description of this hit by Nolan indicates that it was as bad or worse than Kane's hit. In fact, the narrative says that just before hitting Helm Nolan "loads up" and "drives Helm's head into the glass". Other aspects are similar - tracking for considerable distance, could have avoided, etc., etc..

The clear message that the NHL has sent is one of the following:

    1) The NHL doesn't really consider repeat offender status when assigning supplementary discipline for these types of hits, OR:

    2) The NHL was capricious and gave Kane an equal penalty for inexplicable reasons.

... as if anyone could ever know that (pure malarkey).

The Jets might lead the league in having one player take on two opponents in a scrum. It's a Buff specialty, and Lowry headlocked two guys simultaneously in the game against the Ducks.

  18. I hate hits in the numbers more than any play in hockey, but I'm surprised at the length of this suspension, when we've seen guys railroaded into the end boards multiple times this season without a even a phone call.

Kane should have let up, but lets be real, he got two games because of his instagram pic.

I've been reading or hearing people say things like this for over a decade. How many steps do they need before they finally ban hitting?

    Or is this just hyperbole?

A player facing the boards to play the puck bothers you more than a player seeing the numbers of a player along the boards playing the puck deciding to make an illegal hit?

    What?

It boggles my mind that some people believe in this "no hitting league" stuff. This hit was dangerous. Do you people really want these kind of hits in the game?

According to the NHL rule book the only penalties that can be called for a double-minor are high sticking, spearing, head-butting or butt-ending.

    http://www.nhl.com/ice/page.htm?id=26544

What you just brought to everyone's attention is that the NHL refs make it up as they go along.
