Totally agree with Kane. Between the spin the wheel of DoPS and the shitty officiating it seems like they're hell bent on looking like amateurs.

Perceived inconsistency is an inevitability. Not only because the rulebook is not written in a tight way and thus a whole range of decisions can be justified for any one incident, but also because just about everyone who analyzes DoPS decisions isn't evaluating them for fairness and logic, but rather is comparing them to their own personal first impression when they see an incident.

This kind of perceived inconsistency is much more likely to be a result of how hastily people jump to conclusions, how little introspective analysis is done in those conclusions, and thus how much inconsistency there is in those first impressions. This statement by Kane is equally hasty and without due consideration. Unlike most fans, the DoPS analyzes plays critically and breaks down all factors. When players, fans and media do the same, then they can have a conversation about consistency. When you have people saying [incident 1] is 'literally identical to' [incident 2] when there are significant differences between them, that conversation is pointless and goes nowhere.

Kane is absolutely right when he said that very few people in the NHL understand the rules and how they lead to decisions. I think it's about time they start paying attention.
Agree 100%. But the nhl needs to do a much better job of delineating those factors. It almost seems like the league is simply responding to (uninformed) fan sympathies.

Unfair or not Evander Kane is perceived as a malcontent by big parts of the old boys club that runs hockey so he unlike others will allways get a suspension when he does something questionable.

I do think a suspension was the right call here BUT this DoPS is maddingly inconsistent ( like Kane mentions in his statement ) and lets certain players off the hook too easily while others face the music . This isn't exactly new though and has been the case for years now.

True, and this unfortunately plays into the fact that even the suspensions the league makes is still strictly business, so there are certain biases and cheeky works going on that us fans can easily forget about or not realize entirely

I applaud Kane for writing this statement. Not only is it beautifully written he is 100% right.
Not only did he call out the DoPS, but nowhere did he state that he SHOULDN'T be suspended.

Ask yourself this: Who would you rather have leading the DoPs? Parros or Shanahan? lol

To be honest, it was just as inconsistent under Pronger, Shanahan and now Parros.

Kane is right, he just looks bad because he's already got a suspension history and this statement arises from something he actually did do. The dude comes off as selfish and self centered because of it (not saying he is, but he doesn't speak out for any other player than himself ever).

This shouldn't come as a surprise because Brian Burke thought Kane was completely wrong with his comments and thought he should apologize to Parros.

"He gets him a little bit in the throat." LOL

Burke is entertaining and I like when he's on the Hockey Central Podcast on Fridays but he is an essentially a mouthpiece for the league. He can't even criticize a coach or GM without first talking about what a "great guy" the person is.

This country is run by by IVY league people and the corruption is rampant. Why do you think that DOPS run by a IVY league grad would be any different?

Parros who was never suspended or fined was a POS back in the day? The guy played hard but wasn't dirty. Low IQ? The guy was a three time ECAC All Academic team and graduated from Princeton with a degree in economics.

The DOPS has been inconsistent for years before Parros took over and continued that. This also isn't the first time a player has called out the DOPS for that inconsistency, Chris Simon did the same thing back in 2008 after Pronger only got 8 games for his stomp on Kesler. After Parros is replaced, they will still be inconsistent
He was a goon, no way near a nhl caliber player.... so why is he running such an important part of the nhl?

Just to illustrate Kane’s point even further...

One of these two hits resulted in a 3 game suspension and the other resulted in no discipline:

100% correct, although a bit tactless bringing it up after you get rightfully suspended, rather than when someone gets hurt. Like yeah right you couldn't know that targeting one guy the whole night and eventually throwing a head hit might get you suspended.

And yet he played nearly 500 games in the NHL. Im going to take a guess and say because being a supposed NHL caliber player isn't a prerequisite for getting a job in the NHL offices?

This illegal hit on Travis Dermott by Kyle Okposo didn't get him a 2:00 penalty or a suspension since both were deserved. What made that even worse is how Buffalo went down the ice and scored a goal. Plus no players have been suspended for illegal hits against the Maple Leafs since 2013 which is the longest streak in the NHL.

That's called finishing a check. Maybe a 2 min roughing penalty, but nothing egregious

Wrong guy, right sentiment.

In the same week a 6’9 player cross checked a player in the throat/face, all that cost him was a parking ticket.

Jeremy Jacobs has DoPS and zebras in his pocket.
