I recently noticed that the 'Days since the sens last incident' thread was locked as was the 'Jim Little' thread. Leaving us no where to discuss the teams off ice news. Its clearly a hot topic and I know the mods do not want every thread to turn into a Melnyk discussion. Perhaps dedicating a thread specifically to it would make it easier on everyone so it doesn't dominate multiple threads.

You wonder why he wants to continue to own the Senators. Is it because B-list celebs like Mel Gibson will think he’s someone important?

He’s said for years he’s losing money and we should be thankful to him. That’s stopped since the fans stopped going to the arena. Hed openly complain when the building was sold out every night it wasn’t enough, and now the building is half empty he says nothing and has a private plane. No credibility

It’s been nothing but bad headlines for him for years, at some point you’d think the headache wouldn’t be worth it and you’d pass it along to someone who could get some positives out of it.

I’m hopefully he thinks the team is more marketable (able to get the extra $50 mill or whatever) after the draft if we stumble onto 2-3 potential super stars and a cupboard full of prospects.

This thread is needed, Melnyk is the hottest topic in Sens land and we keep losing the places where we can laugh and discuss his ineptitude.

The latest hot topic is the dismissal of Jim Little and now news that the VP of Comms has now been "placed on leave". This was in the news yesterday, so it is a new development, which means we should be able to discuss.

Did we even spend $50m on salary this season? I have a sincerely hard time imagining that kind of boost.

I'm not into the blind negativity or anything, but it's hard not to hedge optimism about anything at the mercy of Melnyk.

I meant $50 mill on his asking price to sell the team. The team is more marketable if they put a young decent team on the ice and potentially draft Laf/Byfield types.

it’s so funny we have to follow these guidelines because Melnyck justified Little’s firing over a blog post. HFboards has higher standards then the Ottawa Senators
Setting aside whether or not what the team did puts them in any sort of legal jeopardy, HFboards can't survive getting sued for libel, Melnyk (or rather CSE) presumably can. It's not so much higher standards as it is being risk adverse.

Well said. He’s a stubborn man though.

What if he is waiting for the lottery draft in April to see if he will get the 1st overall pick, in which would increase the value of the franchise for a possible sale.

/clinging to any hope right now :(

There's much more recent precedent for Melnyk defending claims, not starting them.

Speaking of, has there been any news on his casino lawsuit? Or his former pilot's lawsuit? Or the one suit he did initiate vs. Trinity Development Group?

The one I’m really interested in is the Trinity lawsuit, this is the one that will decide Melnyks future and I’m assuming the only reason he’s still holding onto the team... it’s been over a year now right? Last update I could find was in Oct 2019 where lawyers for both parties met to agree on dates and stuff but haven’t seen anything since.

Mel & Mel's reaction to this thread:

Wonder if they make a movie about this, Mel Gibson can play the role of Joe Thornton.
Completely aside from his being an a-hole, does anyone know what the significance of his #27 jersey is? Does he have a name on the back?

The lawsuit thread is still open, but here`s a link to the casino case details

Seems last action was late Jan with no additional court dates scheduled at this time. Not sure what that means mind you.

Pretty sure that was Kovalev`s number, and I seem to recall Melnyk was rumoured to have pushed for us to get him.

That's what I was thinking as well, but I don't think we had these current jerseys when Kovy was here.

Did the team make too many Curtis Lazar jerseys and Melnyk just snagged one of those??

Looks the same to me...

Took a quick look through the google images and found some pics of him in a #01 jersey (2007 red style), a Meknyk nameplated jersey (#27), and even a #65 with the C jersey.

The good old days, when Melnyk was shelling out $$$ for UFAs and we thought of him as an eccentric but harmless rich uncle.
