How sick is this. Pittsburgh wins the lottery. Hell...Esposito wins the lottery. This now gives them a definitely scary top two lines...and a god awful scary powerplay. Good god this is going to be great. Good luck getting tickets to Pens games once the new arena opens.

We only got him because we tanked last season. Dirty tankers.

Forget once the new arena opens, good luck getting tickets to Pens games next season. The arena is about 75% sold to season ticket holders.

I still can't believe he dropped to us, and what about Cherepanov to the Rangers :amazed:

Oscar Moller in the second round would cap off an awesome draft

Actually The Pens pick of Esposito made a world of sense. He was by far the most skilled player remaining. And gives the Pens a huge amount of flexibility. In that several of their centers can move to wing, a huge need. But even more important, if one of Malkin or Staal needs to be traded for cap reasons, Esposito can hopefully step right up and fill in. Smart, smart move. Shero is looking better by the day.

Meanwhile, this team is going to be loved in french Canada. Owner Mario and we seem to collect star French Canadian players over the years.

Jesus Pens... I mean, i'm cool with you guys getting Fleury, then Crosby, then Malkin, then Staal just to save the franchise, but we got you the arena...this is just ridiculous.

Just mess up. ONCE. k?

brilliant post jok-atwhatever...

no one drafted this late, heck pretty much no one in this draft is going to be stepping into anyones lineup anytime soon, so why draft for a "need" when the player wont be ready for at least 2-3 years, by which our needs might be different.

and the pens dont really need defense from this draft. our top 5 is set in stone, with gonchar, whitney, orpik, eaton, and letang. throw in prospects like goligoski, lannon, sneep and straight from last year, even nemec if he chooses to play in NA, and we have prospects there too. the D will be addressed through FA or a trade, and it never ever ever hurts to take the best available player in any draft at any point.

Some articles from not long ago:

Is this one the next Next One?
He's just 16, but Esposito has already made a name for himself

Cam Cole, Vancouver Sun
Published: Tuesday, December 13, 2005
Angelo Esposito said he has watched the world junior hockey tournament every Christmas "since I was young."

He is 16.

Some would call that young.

But at 16 years, 10 months, Esposito is fifth in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in scoring, with 24 goals and 58 points in 30 games. Those are old numbers, the kind that have already caused him to be mentioned in the same breath as Sidney Crosby, who preceded him at Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota ... and as a 16-year-old in the 'Q.'

2007 Prospects: Angelo Esposito, 16-year-old standout (Part 2)

Written by Simon Richard on 10/06/2005
He is a barely 16 years old and already speaks three languages fluently. He is articulate, with exceptional charisma. He completed two years in one in high school while playing 68 games across America. And hockey, he plays it so well that he may be at this moment the best of the 1989 vintage.

Angelo Esposito has everything needed to receive exceptional attention from the hockey world in the upcoming years.
