As if our game didnt have enough bad press, those idiots over at ESPN are posting that idiotic brain-diaherrea of an idea called the ESPNHL again on their front page (yknow, the "awesome" league with a 64 game sched, no fighting, mics on players and 20 teams including one in that hockey hotbed Las Vegas-- but not Ottawa :dunce: )

The best part? Their tag line for it is "A better Idea". How 'bout this for a better idea, ESPN? How about you turds stick to the X games and poker and ignore the NHL altogether, seeing that everytime you nitwits post or say anything about the NHL or hockey, you embarress the collective fanbase of the entire sport AND solidify your standing as the most uninformed sports media in the WORLD when it comes to Hockey. I mean, the Iranian Sports Network knows more about Hockey than you folk.

ESPNHL... Nimrods. :dunce:

Oh, here and there
Agreed. ESPN doesn't even pretend to care about the NHL. Day before the possible cancellation of the season and it's all talk about Jason Giambi and Jose Canseco. They'd talk about the Yankees all year given the chance.

It sucks that the NHL is below WOMENS COLLEGE BASKETBALL on ESPN's home page.
you obviously do not frequent the webpage. if you did, you would know better than to make a claim like that.

A lot of the ESPNHL ideas would be great for implementation into the real NHL...

- less teams
- 60 game regular season
- 20 player rosters
- mandatory visors
- tag up offsides, no-touch icing
- no fighting

Lots of bad ideas too...

- shootouts
- team in Las Vegas
- bigger nets
- mic'ed up players during the game? although, doesn't CBC do that once in awhile?

1. Yeah, that reduction in fighting has certainly helped draw new fans to the sport, hasn't it?

2. Las Vegas is an incredible sports market that has yet to be tapped by any major North American league. The NHL would be wise to get a team there ASAP. Perhaps the Mighty Dice of Vegas?

- no fighting

The theory that taking out fighting will bring in families to the game is B.S.

Kids jump up and down and love the fights at games I've been too. I was sitting all around normal looking families during a Cincy Duck game in December that was moved to Anaheim, and the kids and families all were excited by a line brawl that occured. I didn't hear one parent or kid complain about what was going on out there or any parent say that it was terrible that their kids had to see this. There was nothing like that, instead the building was jumping and everyone was having a good time.

Fighting should stay in the game. It can only add to the entertainment package of hockey. If anything it should be a promoted aspect of hockey. When two rivals are scheduled to play promote the fact that they hate eachother and promote that there will probably be a fight or two.

These two ideas will both happen at some point. Select players have already been miced for some games in the past.

Location, Location!
I see it's time for another ESPN bashing thread. Yes, ESPNHL is a dumb idea. But it's not ESPN's fault that hockey is the 8th most popular sport (at best) in the US.
