They should prepare a better product instead

It is amazing how much they seem to hate baseball. They air it, and then go to great lengths to make the broadcast unwatchable. Between the producers getting Alex Rodriguez to totally ditch the style that made him insightful and entertaining on Fox, to putting Jessica Mendoza on air any time, they just have no idea what they are doing.

It’s a shame how bad espn has gone downhill

I remember about 15 years ago thinking that ESPN reminded me of mid-90s MTV with the direction it was heading. That played out to a tee.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if their next move was to shift completely from news/analysis to a pure reality format where you have to squint to even see a sports connection. NFL/NBA players living together in a summer house, that sort of thing.

Not surprising. They have overpaid for a lot of their sports broadcasting rights and they've been on a steady decline even before that. Gotta cut costs somewhere unfortunately.

I truly do believe they have pitched that before. And they basically do have a rendition of it last year when they were following around a few NBA players in their own "series" basically. Effectively, to liken your MTV comparison, you'll get SportsCenter until 9am, another at 5pm and then SVP late night. Throw in a Top 10 of the day prior to that. Sprinkle in primetime Sports (when they are on) and then the rest will be filler garbage by "hip and know-whats-going-on-in-the-head-of-players" analyst OR like you said...reality TV.

30 for 30, E:60, etc. all feel like they died when the old school journalist al retired.

What do you expect when they spend way too much time on the likes of LeBron? They rarely give other sports (aside from the NFL) much coverage. & whether you agree or not, they have lost a good amount of viewers due to some of their personalities dipping into politics.
The amount of time they spend on topics like the battle of LA in the nba is off putting for large portion's of the country.

Exactly. I don't need to hear about the Clippers and Lakers 10 or more times a day.
The executives at ESPN have registered your complaint and have decided to spread out the coverage. Now Clippers vs Lakers is only 7 hours a day with the additional 3 hours going to cover Nets vs Knicks and Jets vs Giants exclusively.

As far as they are concerned, anything that happens in middle America is unimportant (unless Tim Tebow was involved). Yet a good chunk of their viewing audience hails from this region, so it makes little sense to neglect the segment of the country in favor of talking exclusively about the coasts.

Cord cutting is also really hurting ESPN. They are very reliant on subscriber fees and more and more people don't want to pay for it.

I personally chose Sling Blue to stick it to them. I haven't had ESPN for months and don't miss it at all.

Indeed , the worst of which was MNF
A cable network has no business outbidding OTAs for something like this.

Can't wait. Hopefully they also dedicate an extra hour to the LeBron/Jordan debate, cause we haven't heard enough of that yet. Maybe another time slot for the "Who needs the other one more, Brady or Belichik?" discussion. Wait, I forgot to include time for some Outside The Lines blockbuster story about the Pats that comes with 0 evidence.

Its hilarious because a lot of blue collar workers in middle America are probably their biggest audience.

Shoot, Battle of California. Wait till next year when Curry is healthy in Golden State AND they get a good pick. It'll be the whole "who reigns supreme in CA?!"
I am sure after several hours of battle of CA talk there will no doubt be time left over for people like Rachel Nichols to talk about how miserable places Indianapolis,Philadelphia etc are.

And in the odd time someone slips and actually pays attention to baseball, the Yankees and Red Sox will be the featured teams. The rest of the minor leagues do not exist. Unless the Yankees play the Mets, then it can get a temporary upgrade.
