They didn't offer him a full NMC?

That is an absolute joke.

Did he or his agent ask for one .............. a wait; they did not get back to Sens management after receiving the reported offer .....oh?

two sides to every story.

Difference being is now he only has a guaranteed 6.5 million, instead of a reportedly, guaranteed 88 million ........ so for his sake, I hope he remains healthy, and reaches Unrestricted free agency without suffering a career ending injury.............. that reportedly 88 million he left on the table, in Ottawa, would look pretty pretty pretty good if that happened.

Extremely unnecessary.

Sure. And Turris never told Ottawa what he wanted either, so Dorion had to trade him.

It seems like our GM thinks that he doesn't have to work to re-sign his best players, they're supposed to come to him. Can't wait to hear him after Duchene gets dealt. "Matt never came to us to ask for a contract."

Jokes all around.

Please quote where his agent said he didn't ask for one.

Anybody who has even tiniest shred of NHL contract knowledge knows that players of this calibre get a NMC no question. Thanks for giving us more evidence to throw on the massive pile of how little knowledge you have about the NHL.

A NMC in his extension would not have covered this season ........... unless he and his agent negotiated one as a condition of signing the extension.

A many times as EK65 said he wanted to remain an Ottawa Senator, he did very little this summer to make that happen.

The Sens made a contract extension, and EK65 and agent did not return to the bargaining table ......... pretty much writing his own ticket out of town in doing so.

So post all the quotes of EK65 telling everyone he loved being here, and wanted to stay ........ but keep in mind that actions speak louder than his words.

Like Karlsson said, he couldn't sign it cause he would have been traded anyways.

Of course the Sens are going to offer him 88M over 8 years if there is no NTC. Karlsson would have been way more valuable with an 8 year deal locked up.

What he said in that interview just solidifies how big of f***ing weasels are owner and GM are.

By offering him that, they can:
1. tell the fans they gave him an offer (and not look like liars)
2. if he signs, they just trade him anyways and get way more back from the deal.

Honestly man.... you are so far out to lunch, it's unbelievable. No one on here is agreeing with you. You are just wasting your time posting. You may as well be trying to convince everyone the sky is pink.

95% of Sens fans know why he left, and it ain't on him.

Yes. When a team asks you for your 10 team NTC in October, then the GM goes on to say that "even Gretzky got traded" and then tries to trade you at the deadline, those actions speak very loudly. Way more loudly than "we'll present him an offer."

Karlsson got the message. They didn't want him here.

So do you believe int his or not? You say you don't support or believe in this team, but you will cheer from home and be mad when they lose. You can't turn that tap off forever. Maybe this year you do, sounds like you do. Hopefully hockey will be fun for you again someday . This doesn't sound like fun.

I haven't been to a CFL game in Ottawa in over 25 years.
The tap can be turned off, perma, if the product is shit.
It's a business all around, but thankfully for the Senators, there are a many people who will pay for games live.

As for Erik, wish him nothing but the best and I hope this season blows up in P.R. Dorion's face.

Keep in mind that unless he negotiated a retro active NMC, as a condition of signing an extension with Ottawa, he would have been subject to the conditions set out in his final year of his current contract ...... that being a LNMC, AKA 10 team no trade list.

When EK65 rejected the reportedly 88 million offer, he and his agent were granted permission to talk to other teams, that he would like to go to, and were interested in acquiring him, to try and work out an extension with them, and then do a sign and trade provided the trade was agreeable to the Senators ............. this did not happen.

First, it doesn't matter where he goes, he's still on his last contract. If he's in Ottawa, he can be traded, if he's in San Jose, he can be traded. It doesn't matter. Your first part didn't make any sense.

Secondly, he didn't do that with other teams 1. because he probably wanted to stay here and was hoping for the possibility of an ownership change, 2. it looks bad on him to do that when he probably wants everyone to know this isn't on him 3. why the hell would he bother when he can sign wherever he wants next summer anyways? There's no win for him on that one.

And yes, he could return to Ottawa

If he is prideful in any way, there is no way you return to someone who let you go in such an ugly manner.

Even if the owner was gone. If I am him, I go for a Stanley cup contender, and simply keep up with my charities in Ottawa and remaining an ambassador for them.

Someone prideful would just not return.

It would actually work out for Karlsson if he returned with new ownership, especially if Alfredsson has a role.

Team hits rock bottom with terrible ownership, and then, Melnyk is finally forced out, Alfredsson saves the day and brings back his protege to cement his legacy as the greatest player this team has ever seen. Fans come back, Karlsson's number eventually goes up into the rafters.

It's too bad there's virtually zero chance Melnyk sells this year.

First, if he negociated a full retro active NMC as a condition of signing an extension (with Ottawa) just like Carey Price did in Montreal ....... he could not be traded.

Second, Next Summer he can only sign for 7 years max, if he becomes an UFA ........ only the San Jose Sharks (now) can sign him for eight years, after the Trade Deadline.

So signing an eight year extension is a big win, over a 7 year contract.

I keep hearing Alfredsson, coming in as a new owner ......... where is he getting 550 - 600 million US from?

Alfredsson would come in only as perhaps a part owner, or more liley as part of a mangement team with a new owner.

They offered it reportedly without the expected bonus structure and no NMC. It's not a real offer when you know it's not going to come close to being accepted. Knowing it wouldn't be considered, I'm not convinced they had the finances to back that offer up in the first place.

It was all part of a poorly written play they tried to put over the fans.

It was a real offer; Karlsson just wanted $88 million plus a NMC plus most of that money paid as bonuses. Yes he wanted to stay in Ottawa if he got everything he asked for. The team choose not to give him the latter two which is their prerogative.

two sides to every story.

What in the world? First off a guy like EK shouldn't have to ask for a god forsaken NTC. Secondly, when you know the team is trying to trade you at the TDL and has asked for your no-move list, you're honestly thinking the team is negotiating in good faith? The management has been exposed as absolute FRAUDS. They consistently lie to their fanbase and ticket base, this is a clear violation of trust and it proves their offer was bullshit only meant to appease the remaining sens fans. If this was a public company, the CEO would be getting sued left and right for lying to their shareholders.
