Half his heel gone, gone to new team in an uncomfortable situation, dealt with losing a child and his spouse being cyber bullied.

I’m sure he’ll find his groove soon enough. He’s literally one of a handful of players in today’s that is too good to not succeed.

I'm not saying he is playing well or anything, but he's typically a slow starter. He doesn't do a lot of summer training, which means that he is kind of slow at the start of the season and then picks it up around the 30 game mark or so. The reason he's not doing that much summer training is that he plays so much during the season, and for that reason and have trouble keeping his weight. He uses the summers to bulk up and rest mostly. I suspect he will start playing better soonish

Could it be he has his sights set elsewhere? Have always felt that, think the Sharks do too hence their offer. I think the player and organization view this as a rental situation. Maybe it's league-known EK wants to test the market and thats why offers were low. Still very early though.

The stats quoted in the OP are misleading. I've watched San Jose play this year and, yeah, Karlsson clearly isn't at his best, but he's still quite effective out there and still has 5 assists. Give him another 10-20 games and he'll be right back to being the elite defenseman that he is.

Karlsson doesn’t want to be there, and the team doesn’t want him there. He likely misses Ottawa, and the Eastern conference. In short, he’s not a good fit. He’s probably regretting not accepting Ottawa’s offer of 11x8M. He’ll never be the same outside of Ottawa, the team catered to him and built their system around him. He traded his comfort which was Ottawa for his Ego, and now the effects are being felt. The smart thing would’ve been to accept the shortcomings of Ottawa and just stay put, and reap the benefits of the team nurturing your skill, rather than moving and learning an entirew new team and system and essentially way of life. SJ belongs to Burns, Vlasic, Pavelski, and Thornton.

I never understood the trade to begin with, from SJ perspective, you have two number one right handed defenseman in Burns and Karlsson. If one of the two was left handed, then it would make sense.

Ottawa is better without him though, you can’t revolve your entire team around one player in today’s NHL. Edmonton might have the best player in the world (McDavid), but they don’t have enough of a good supporting cast of equal elites. Trading Hall is going to forever haunt them. In Hall and McDavid, you have the best duo in the NHL today. Pittsburgh, Chicago, LA, Boston, Washington, and now Toronto, all have more than one superstar on their team and don’t cater to any individual specifically.

san jose fan who actually watches the games saying karlsson has been doing his thing just fine and it's only getting better.
he is kicking major ass out there, the team is just not an especially high scoring team. he is obviously our most talented D.
he has turned a top third team in the league to near the very top.

  • 9 games into the season
  • +/- is an absurd stat. He was -2 in one game because Jones could stop a beach ball, and the other goal was an empty netter.
  • He has put up 5 assists.
  • He has a strong corsi rating.
  • He is still learning to play in the Sharks systems, and the other players are still getting used to playing with him.
Happy with Karlsson so far.

San Jose was sold a lemon.

Is it too late to ask for a refund?

Worst case scenario, they paid $5,000 for a Ferrari whose KBB value is still $50,000.

Anybody who watches the Sharks knows that Karlsson’s impact on the game is very high in the positive, even if it hasn’t shown up on the simple score sheet quite yet. He has plenty of room to improve, mind you, but he has been strong thus far.

It's almost laughable that some people would've easily traded Heiskanen+ to get him if they were the Stars.

He'll get better though.

Wasn’t there a thread just like this at 7 games that got closed down after like 3 pages?

Who the hell cares, you’ve got Burns giving you offence for the time being anyways. EK65 will find his groove soon enough don’t you worry.
