We can sign Pietrangelo at around $9m even without trading Johnson. We may need to move Cole though but that's much easier to do as he has 2/3 the AAV and only 1 year term compared to Johnson who has 3 years remaining.

This seems more like it's coming from outside Colorado, but it could be that Sakic is planting some seeds ahead of the 2021 offseason/expansion draft when it would be convenient to move Johnson if we need capspace and/or if he won't waive his NMC.

Could the Johnson trade rumors be the reason why the Avs apparently checked in with the Yotes on Hjalmarsson? I'm not suggesting Joe would trade one for one straight up but could he be thinking Hjalmarsson can replace Johnson?
