Base Byram will make little, but he will certainly hit some bonuses. If the Avs are against the cap, they roll over and count where Byram could still earn more. Within a realm of possibility that Byram is effectively 3-4m on the cap in 2022 or 2023.
ah yeah I always forget about that. It still helps though with the percentage of the cap. Byram's actual hit of 3/4 assuming he does well would be filled by someone making at least 5mil otherwise and if he does really well even higher. So there are still savings.
EJ won't be a huge problem on his own. The problem is having EJ and Cole or EJ and Z both making 6 and 4 respectively. That hurts.
Ideally your top defense would make x% of the cap etc. having roughly 1/9th of the cap in your bottom pair (assuming inflation) is not good even if the top pair is way below their actual percentage requirement. But Cole will be gone by the time EJs deal looks really bad and that money++ will go to Makar.
The good thing is is that EJ is the only bad contract on the avs. You can argue Cole too but its only 1 more year. Most teams have multiple problem contracts
