Jonjo Shelvey is a piece of trash.

Well, they looked a heck of a lot better than against Real. Curious to see how they do against a PL team that actually challenges their defence though

Just saw the replays of the first game. Kane's tackle is a red all day long for me.

Yes. Lejeune was going to be a huge piece for us. He was brilliant in pre-season. But as a Newcastle fan I was pissed how Rafa tried to deflect by citing this in his presser. Kane's challenge was rash and dangerous and should have been a red, but Jonjo's was neanderthal-level idiotic.

I agree regarding Kane's tackle. What did you think of Ritchie's tackle?

Expected more out of West Ham against my United, I didn't think the win would come that easy. Thought Chicharito, Hart, and Zabaleta would impact more than they did. Chicha had a few bad misses.

    Mata, Mourinho, Lukaku, and Matic.

Must be strange for Chelsea fans to watch United these days.

Agreed. Bringing in Matic was perfect because Pogba was trying to do too much on both sides of the ball last year. This year with Matic around him he can focus more on his creative and offensive side of the game while not worrying as much about getting back and being a stopper. Fellaini wasn't reliable enough to do that job, Matic is showing how it's supposed to be done.

Considering that Mata is my favourite player ever to play for Chelsea, I've rated Matic very highly for awhile (including, IIRC, referring to him as our true MVP in the 2014-15 title season), and I was pretty mad when we gave away Lukaku for peanuts after he'd already had a few top level seasons, it's more than just strange. It's infuriating.

United looked great. That was really fun to watch.

More attacking lineups please. Matic can handle the MF - no need to stack it all year

We've got Swansea, Stoke and Leicester to start the year. Would be nice to get off to a good start.

Mourinho left a sour taste in my mouth, especially since he's responsible for Mata going to United and Lukaku leaving.

I could understand Matic, but why sell to a rival and why sell when a replacement wasn't lined up.

Man utd made smart buys in the off-season. Matic will be huge for them. Lukaku is shaping up to be an amazing buy, he may make that fee look good actually.

If Rashford continues the way he played on LW against WH, Man utd may actually challenge for the title if they stay healthy.

I think I am the only non-United fan that picked them to win the PL. Felt dirty. I'll be changing my rankings a bit after the window is over but dont foresee myself editing that.

In slow-motion Ritchie's tackle looked way worse than it did in real-time; I thought yellow was okay but I would have understood giving a red for that. It was clear he was trying to make a professional foul to stop Spurs' attack, but he was extremely late, so instead of getting his foot in front of Alli and taking him down relatively innocuously, he clattered in from the side and thus endangered Alli. So, yeah, I would have been fine with red there.

30:15 for the Kane tackle and 32:50 for the Ritchie tackle (though they don't show the close up of the Ritchie challenge which was in the original broadcast.

Having rewatched the Kane challenge really carefully just now, that's a stone-cold red; no debate. I didn't realize it but Kane only got the ball with his right leg that swept through Lejeune, not with his front leg. He effectively went through Lejeune to get the ball, and look how hard he kicked it. That's a really bad tackle. At this point Lejeune's lucky it it has no lasting effects.

Kane is England's darling. He can get away with it.

Guess I overreacted on Ritchie's tackle. Fair yellow.

I feel like people are overrating them based on one game against a toothless WH side. I'm sure Mourinho can still manage to **** this up

I think a decent amount of it is understanding they won't be as poor finishing as they were last year. Plus the additions of Lindelof and especially Matic will open up players like Pogba moving forward.

Sure it could all fail miserably, but just based on raw talent on the roster they should be in the conversation.

Lindelof's looked like an overpriced dud so far. It's obviously still way too early to tell, but he hasn't just been bad, he's been straight up awful. Agreed on Matic though, he was a great pickup.
