Why file for arbitration if you sign a league minimum contract? Was he worried the arbitrator would see him play and be like, eh you deserve less than league minimum, I award you a $400,000AHL contract.

I think it’s worth giving him a non-Housley opportunity in camp, with the idea that there’s a less than 1% chance he makes the cut. But who knows? At that price point, I could see Ottawa claiming him on waivers.

Since $700k is the minimum NHL salary, presumably negotiations had to do with how much he gets paid in the minors.

I asked this in another thread and at-mentioned you. This is the answer to that question.

Can't begrudge the guy for wanting a little bit more to ride the bus in the minors.

I can't stop staring at the way you described ~$600k as "a little bit more" :biglaugh:

Elie was on a $735K one-way contract when he came to Buffalo.

This language in the CBA allowed the Sabres to give him a 2-way qualifying offer:
A qualifying offer has to be a one-way deal if the player has played in 180 or more NHL games the last three seasons, played at least 60 NHL games the previous season, and not cleared waivers the previous season.

His qualifying offer would have been $771,750 NHL salary, Minor League Salary ? The only info I found is that his minor league salary has to be greater than previous season. His most recent minor league salary was $70k

I assume Elie filed for arbitration because he wanted a one-way contract. Phil Housley won't be on his Christmas card list.

Anyone have the numbers on how many of JB's contracts have been 1 or 2 years? Gotta be at least 90% of them. Not that I think Elie should've gotten more, just seems like every time someone signs it's for 1 or 2 years.

Waste of a roster spot.

Only on this forum would somebody complain about a league minimum two way contract.

By all accounts he was very good in the AHL & will at best play a handful of games for Buffalo...

Teams rarely hit the max 50 contracts... I think it's 46 even with all RFAs signed - with some of those 46 needing to be shipped out.

I don't think he's getting that much in the AHL as it is a two-way deal

Ha, yeah, I was referring to the difference in salaries between a 1 way (~700k) and 2 way deal (~70-100k). The difference would be around 600.
