He's not as explosive as McDavid and as physical as McKinnon, but he has a better shot variety in all situations. He can skate and deke like Barzal. He matches Matthews in the snap shot department, he matches Laine in the wrist shot department. He can shoot one timers just as well as Ovechkin - over even better.
Preemptive statement, he's a phenomenal player, ever Canuck and hockey fan should love him, why hype him up with false equivalents.

He doesn't have any of the shooting characteristics of any of the players you just mentioned. If he has all that talent why has he never paced for more than 33 goals a season(he's never cracked 30 in a season either)? He has as good or better one timer than Ovechkin well damn let's go look at his powerplay goals this season and see he's in the company of the best powerplay bombs in Mikko Rantanen and David Perron.....

Also a better shot selection than McDavid and MacKinnon? What does that even mean and does it matter until he actually gets even remotely close to their goal totals in a full season?

Again, he's a fantastic player and he'll likely be in the top 10 maybe top 5 players in the league at some point. But these comparisons are so far off....

It’s the core around him that will ultimately decide his faith amongst the best. Things are looking good. If Boeser can be that threat on the other side of the PP with Hughes back there the sky is the limit. People sleeping on Podkolzin shouldn’t as well. That guy will be a horse in front of the net.

Future top 5 C? I'm confident that happens any time now.

Future top 5 in the league? Sure he could be one of those guys but there are a lot of people in that conversation. who knows?

Great player and draft steal.
