:laugh::laugh: He is 1 point behind that number right now with like 20 games left to play. Ill go out on a limb and say he will smash that. And that Nylander probably never gets as much points as Lindholm does this year. Than you take in the fact Lindholm smashes Nylander defensively like its not even close there. And the salaries make it even bigger gap. No sane person would take Nylander.
I have no doubt he will. He’s also been in the NHL how long?

Nylander is massively underrated defensively, he’s one of our best forwards at getting the puck out of the zone, and transitioning from defense to offense. Yea, he’s having a bad season for traditional metrics, after missing training camp, and the first two months... but he’s been one of the Leafs’ best players since coming back, so long as you aren’t blinded by the scoreboard.

At 24 Lindholm is just now managing to beat what Nylander did at 20. Do you think Nylander is done developing, or this is the new norm for Lindholm?

If you’d like to make it about numbers and who ‘gets as much points’ , consider that objectively, Lindholm’s numbers this year read as a far greater statistical anomaly when comparatively speaking.

The only unreasonable opinion would be to deny this is debatable.

Still Nylander

Leafs fans being real sensitive.

Lindholm is going to have a better season than Nylander ever has, at $2 million less per year, yet apparently Nylander is the easy choice? Look, I get that this is a breakout season from Lindholm and he might not do it ever again, but he doesn't even have to have 80% of his production this year to be better than anything Nylander has ever done.

It's pretty hard not to take Lindholm here.
Meh, give Nylander Gaudreau and Monahan and give Lindholm Kadri and Brown and see how that works for ya.

Hasnt he played Auston Matthews most of his career. The only reason hes playing with the 3rd line is cause he cant produce with Matthews so he's been demoted. Who did he play most of his time with in his 60 point seasons?

A logical person would assume Nylander is playing with Kadri and Brown because he's sucking and not vice versa. If Nylander was playing to his normal level he would 100% be flanking Matthews instead of Kadri.

A contract that exists for the next 5+ seasons, just like Nylanders. Who cares how they got the contracts, just that they got those contracts today.

Again, take the player who's far better defensively, outproducing offensively and is making 2M less for the foreseeable future. It's not rocket science here.
First off, it’s your opinion is that he’s far better defensively. That’s a very broad term and a very subjective one. In some aspects he’s better, yeah, but Nylander being bad defensively is a myth.

Again, Nylander had the worst two months of his career to begin this season after missing camp and two months of game time... His worst stretch, still paced around where Lindholm hovered for his first five years. He was 60+ back to back out of the gate with almost an inarguably better tool box. He’s got better vision, a better shot, better skater, more creative. There’s actually a lot of reasons to like William Nylander here, it’s not rocket science.

His time away gave Kapanen an opportunity he’s not relinquishing easily

And that opens up that Nylander himself is at least somewhat (if not majority) responsible for his time away, and following that his missed preseason, missed 2 months playtime, and Kapanens usurping of his role on line 1b.

Nylander is the architect of his own demise, and his give a f*** level is directly affecting his performance. All of these things are related and have bearing on him as a player.

Elias, not close.
Better defensively by far, higher IQ by far. Contractually not close, you take that Lindholm deal 10/10 times.

Nylander is younger, but he's trending the wrong way. First time Elias has played with legit talent and he's producing like an elite player.

I'm surprised that this poll is as close as it is. Just goes to show you what kind of voting power that HFLeaf fans have.

Show your work.

I wouldn't say Nylander is declining. Its great that Elias can do it (finally) after 4 more years.

There's talk about Elias and the Selke.
Dude's a 1st line PKer who plays both ends of the ice. He's the main reason the Flames top line is no longer a defensive liability.

I wouldn't say that makes him "by far"
...and this is not work, just homer talk.

Burden of proof is on the accuser.

Love that homer talk is: dude plays the first unit penalty kill. Where’s Willy on the PK and in late game protecting a lead? Stapled to the bench maybe?

You’ve made statements like ‘better defensively by far’, and ‘higher IQ by far’. Both statements are very, very questionable, and subjective at best. Typically, those confident in that statement would also be confident supporting it. You’ve balked at a request to elaborate, twice, which couldn’t be more telling... You’re just talking out of your ass.

Lindholm wasn’t a late game stopper in his 3rd year either. Very few 3rd year players are, especially on a team as deep as the Leafs, and especially on a team coached by Mike Babcock. You’re now pointing to that as a reflection of his overall abilities?

Can you not have an honest debate?
