And yet he led our team in hits by a huge margin...

Let’s see you go throw around 220 pounds at 20 km hr 200ish times a year and see how you feel everyday..
Actually Ferland didn't lead the team in hits by a huge margin. Last year Ferland averaged 2.2 hits/game. Hathaway had 2.6 hits per game.

Also on the Flames the bar was set pretty low. Ferland was 43rd on the league list of hits per game.

Um Ferland is no longer in Calgary. What he did here has no relevance on today's team so arguing about the same stat in a different manner is completely moot.

Lindholm is a huge upgrade on Ferly in every manner except hitting. When you consider Ferly likely was not to be re-signed next year it adds value to Lindholm.

I hope Ferly scores 50 because he is such a great feel good story and when a person turns their life around they deserve to be rewarded. At seasons end we can analyze where Calgary and Carolina is and start making sense of who won the trade. For now I am just enjoying the dynamic Hanafin and Lindholm bring to Calgary. As for Carolina I care little for how well or bad they do.

It's been 7 games. He's slow and uninvolved in the flow of play. I'm not impressed so far.

He's not going to be the best at shutting down the offense, but he's a good number 2 capable of 50+ points and 20 goals. He'll provide a ton of offense in the back-end, and the Canes D is good enough to deal with the occasional blunders he makes; but no question I wouldn't have given up Hanifin for him (higher ceiling and projects as a two way d-man).

At least Ferland is tearing it up though.

Get used to it. With Hamilton its a love-hate relationship. When he's scoring you love him. When he's not you hate him.

And no, you can't have Hanifin back. No do-overs.

Not surprised Canes fans aren't as happy with Hamilton as we are with Hanifin. Hamilton was carried like a baby by his mother by Gio the past two years.

In 6 games Hanifin has gone back to get the puck and make the defensive play more times than Hamilton did all of last year playing with Gio. Offensively Hamilton is one of the best, his shot is top 5 when it comes to d-men, but his overall game is no where near as good as Hanifin's IMO. I always had hopes Hamilton could develop into a #1 defender, but was always left wanting more thinking "he'll eventually learn the defensive side of the game and have the hustle that Gio has". He is a solid top 4 guy, with top pairing potential with the right partner, but he isn't the leader on the ice you want him to be. In the few games I have seen Hanifin I see the #1 upside that I always wanted Dougie to have. He skates among the elite in the league, he has a great outlet pass, he hustles in the d-zone and IMO already better than Dougie in the defensive zone. He is starting to open up more in the o-zone as well, but will never have Dougie's shot.

Wish all the best to Hamilton, but with Hanifin on this team I don't miss Hamilton at all.

Your post just made me try to think of instances where Dougie Hamilton ever looked gassed. In my limited viewings, I can't recall any.

This is the problem with SportsNet in general. Nothing is researched properly it is just a means to find a way to the most fantastic headline possible with no substance to back it up.

Roboturner is only one CAR fan's opinion. Most of us are fine with Hamilton so far. I think the trade for him was with an eye on moving Faulk, who he would be a better replacement for, then the offers for Faulk stagnated. Faulk will still be traded at some point after he raises his stock some. As far as Hanifin goes, I think they saw him as not a good fit for where they wanted to go. I agree. Dougie will be fine, and Love Ferland!

Glad to hear you guys are loving Ferly. Seriously I’ll always have a soft spot for him, he’s a great dude. I’ll also forever remember him as being a top 5 prospect all day. Just ask @Tkachuk Norris

Both Ferland (breakaway) and Hamilton (shot in front of net) have had great scoring chances so far against Colorado. Hamilton made one mistake behind the goal which lead to Colorado scoring chance, but other than that, I haven't really noticed him on the defensive side. Which means he's been ok, nothing great or really bad.

We are probably a worse team if you look what Dougie and Noah bring at this point in time. Elias leans this trade in our favour though,

I disagree, I actually think we’re noticably better. If you look at how we move the puck out of own end this season, it’s night and day.

Strongly disagree. If the Hamonic didn't get injured the bottom 4 D would be much stronger and Hanafin would look like a god send. As it stands right now Dougie has 3 assists to Hanafin's 2. Hanafin is a way better defender and breaks out of the defensive zone much better. OH and Noah actually hits opposition players and stands up for his team mates. Refer to Hoxville's post.

Dougie made our powerplay click though. We easily have the worst powerplay in the league right now. Maybe not statistically, but we are putrid out there.
